Maks Chmerkovskiy Dishes on Jenna Johnson’s ‘DWTS’ Experience
Johnson won season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars” with her partner, “The Bachelor” star Joey Graziadei, but this season her experience was much different.
On the September 23 episode of “DWTS,” Johnson and her partner, actor Corey Feldman, were sent home from the competition during the first elimination show. Baron Davis and Britt Stewart were also sent home.
In a Daily Mail article published on September 23, Chmerkovskiy shared, “Obviously, Jenna has a bit of an uphill climb with Corey, which is easy for everybody to say from [the outside], but I know that she’s having a much more difficult time with this entire thing and to the point that it is really difficult for her.”
He added, “You’re talking about a reigning champ, so put some respect on the name, everybody.”
The former “DWTS” pro shed some light on why Feldman may have struggled with being outside of his comfort zone.
“Don’t forget this production is not just about you and your partner dancing, it’s about this massive behemoth of everything thatโs happening โ the amount of people that you have to deal with, the amount of interviews, and this is all between your rehearsal time and your therapy, and you are trying to lick your wounds and all that stuff,” he explained.
“That show requires you to be able to tell grown people what to do and stand your ground,” Chmerkovskiy noted, adding that he believed Johnson would “get it done.”

In a September 23 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson shared her initial reaction to being paired with Feldman. “He is an icon, and when he came in with the sunglasses on, I was like, ‘Oh yes, he means business,'” she said.
The dance pro added, “One of my favorite things about Corey is his energy, and he comes into the room with that charisma and that energy. I really love that, and I want to make sure that I highlight that [in] each dance that we do, because it is so special about him. He’s really electric on the dance floor and in our rehearsal space.”
Johnson also revealed who she’d love to hit the dance floor with next on “DWTS.”
“Demi Lovato. I would love to be partnered with Demi Lovato in a heartbeat,” she said.
Johnson also picked an athlete who would bring his big personality to the show. “Jason Kelce. I think he would be hysterical,” she said. “I think he would shock people, and he would just have infectious energy in the ballroom. People would love to watch his journey on the show.”
