Beloved Beauty Queen Passes Away at 35 After 9-Year Cancer Battle: ‘Always So Brave’

California beauty queen Andrea Andrade, who inspired thousands by refusing to put her dreams on hold during a long cancer battle, has passed away at 35. The news of her death was confirmed by her husband in an emotional Instagram post.

A Cancer Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Andrade died on January 16 after nearly nine years of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries.

She was first diagnosed with stage three colon cancer at 26 and was given six months to two years to live, according to the Fresno Bee.

Following multiple rounds of chemotherapy, her cancer entered remission in 2018. Despite the difficult outlook, she pressed forward with determination and optimism.

Two years later, it returned. Physicians later found that the disease had spread to her reproductive system and reclassified it as stage four, KSEE/KGPE reported.

Her health began to decline in October 2025. Andrade spent Christmas with her family before being admitted to the hospital just days later.

How Andrea Andrade Found Love During Her Cancer Fight

During her years of treatment, Andrade found love and married Chris Wilson. The couple shared eight years together, including two years as husband and wife, building a life defined by devotion and resilience.

After her passing, Wilson paid tribute to his wife with a deeply personal message on social media.

“My eternal love. I know this isn’t goodbye. I’ll see you on the other side, baby. Keep your heavenly arms around me, I love you mi amor,” he wrote.

Wilson later reflected on how Andrade refused to let cancer shape the way she lived.

He said she met every chapter of her life with gratitude, courage, and an unshakable sense of purpose.

Fans Rally Around Her Family Amid Heartbreak

Fans and loved ones rallied around Andrade’s family with an outpouring of grief and support. Many shared how deeply her loss has shaken them, with one writing,

“Our hearts ache for you, Chris. There are no words other than that Andrea was so incredible, and she will be dearly missed. I found myself scrolling through our last DMs and hearted photos on IG I just can’t believe it. Know that we are here for you and that you are in our prayers 🤍

Others reflected on her impact, calling her an inspiration who showed how to “be strong and see life through a different lens,” while another said Andrea “impacted many lives with her story of fighting every day until the very end.”

Another tribute read: “My deepest condolences and prayers to you and all her family. I’m so sorry for your loss, brotha! Her fighting spirit and loving energy will live on through every life she touched! Andrea was a great human being who lived & loved to the fullest! 🙏🏽🪽”

Former classmates remembered her encouragement and kindness, describing her as “such a bright light” who leaves behind “a beautiful legacy.”

The tribute read: “I went to school with Andrea, and we kept in touch over the years. Most recently,y we talked about my nursing career, and she truly touched my heart with words of encouragement. She’s such a bright light, and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy. 🕊️”

Across the messages, fans sent prayers to her husband and family, honoring her fighting spirit, her love for life, and the belief that “heaven received a beautiful angel” who will never be forgotten.

Breaking Barriers in the Pageant World

Even as she faced cancer, Andrade captured national attention by continuing to compete in beauty pageants, proudly wearing her chemotherapy port as a symbol of strength rather than limitation.

She went on to claim five titles, including Miss West Coast, Miss Nuestra Belleza USA, Miss Fresno County, Miss Regional West, and Miss California Congeniality.

“I felt like I just need to do this now,” Andrade told Inside Edition in 2017 while reflecting on her pageant goals. “It’s been one of my lifelong dreams.”

Despite undergoing chemotherapy every other week, Andrade moved forward without pause, determined to live fully and chase the dreams that meant the most to her.

Turning Pain Into Purpose Through Service

When she was not ruling the stage, Andrade focused much of her energy on helping others. She and Wilson founded a program called Not All Heroes Wear Capes to support children undergoing cancer treatment.

The idea grew from meeting a young patient who arrived at every chemotherapy appointment dressed as a superhero. Inspired by that courage, the couple visited children in hospitals, delivered gifts to their homes, and took families to baseball games.

“She said it was one of her most rewarding things of her entire life,” Wilson shared. “She felt it was a great way to put a smile on families’ faces during what had to be challenging times.”

Andrade also reached more than 20,000 followers on Instagram, where she openly shared her journey and encouraged early screening for colon cancer.

“She felt her mission from God was to share her story and help other people,” her husband said, as reported by The Daily Mail. “To let it be known that even if you’re diagnosed with something, you can still have an amazing life and pursue your dreams. Like Andrea did.”

“And it was an honor to be part of that,” he added.

Now, Andrea Andrade is remembered for the strength, kindness, and determination she carried even during the hardest moments of her life.
