Famed designer and co-founder of Valentino, Valentino Garavani, passed away on January 19, 2026, at 93. Now, many of his famous friends and colleagues are paying tribute to the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind. One heartfelt social media post came from “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker.
Sarah Jessica Parker Is Happy to Have Memories of Valentino Garavani
GettyParker took to her official Instagram account on January 19 to share her thoughts on Garavani’s passing. She did so by posting the text overlay “RIP VAVA May 11, 1932 – January 19, 2026,” in red letters on a black background.
The “Sex and the City” star said in the caption, “So many memories. So happy to recall. Of course, wish I had more. For your extraordinary talent, your decadent generosity, and your love of all things beautiful, we are all more fortunate for the grand gestures you shared with the world.
Godspeed Valentino Garavani. X, SJ.”
Parker and Garavani were friends and made several public appearances together. According to Elle, one of the most notable was the 2012 New York City Ballet Fall Gala at the David H. Koch Theater. Of course, Parker has also been photographed wearing several Valentino outfits, including in “Sex and the City.”
Andy Cohen, who also made public appearances with Garavani, shared his feelings in the post’s comments. He said, “Will never forget Roma ❤️ #VivaVava.” Mark Agnes, who worked on “Sex and the City,” said, “Never forget him at the SATC party to celebrate us shooting the last episode in Paris! I true gentleman.”
He Leaves Behind a Vibrant Legacy
The news of Garavani’s passing came from his personal social media channels and those associated with his foundation. Per Instagram, “Our founder, Valentino Garavani, passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by his loved ones.
The lying in state will be held at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday January 21st and Thursday January 22nd, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 23rd at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, in Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome, at 11 am.”
Many fans took to the comments to express not only their sympathy, but their respect for the Valentino brand. One person said, “💔 There will never be another like him. Feel lucky to have known such a talented and kind man.”
Someone else wrote, “RIP to the last emperor of glamour.” Finally, another Instagram user said, “No one will ever be like him! And there won’t be another like him. Farewell to the greatest ❤️”
