Bobby Flay Weighs In on Buzzworthy Cooking Questions & Reveals Dream Chef Pick

Bobby Flay is never shy about speaking his mind in the kitchen. The celebrity chef recently tackled some of the most debated culinary questions in a video shared on Food Network’s Instagram, sparking plenty of reactions from fans.

Flay’s Hot Takes on Garlic, Pasta, and More

In the rapid-fire Q&A session, Flay revealed his stance on several hot topics, from whether rice should be rinsed to how he treats his cast iron skillet. The “Beat Bobby Flay” star also shared which Food Network chef he would want to cook for him — and why.

The video, which asked followers “Do you agree with @bobbyflay’s takes on these controversial cooking questions?,” quickly gained attention as fans weighed in on his bold answers.

Flay’s answers covered everything from pantry staples to kitchen techniques. For starters, he declared that he never puts oil in boiling water when cooking pasta. He also admitted he does wash chicken before cooking it, but when it comes to garlic, his opinion was firm: pre-minced garlic is “never okay.”

When asked about cleaning cast iron, Flay explained, “I don’t wash it with soap, no. If I need to wash it out, I just make sure that it’s bone dry.”

Another question stirred up discussion about pets in the kitchen. “Cats only,” Flay quipped, sparking both amusement and debate in the comments.

He also admitted that he doesn’t wash rice, prefers crème fraîche in his scrambled eggs, and considers breaking pasta before cooking to be “sacrilegious.”

Which Chef Flay Wants Cooking for Him

When the conversation turned to which Food Network star Flay would want preparing a meal for him, he highlighted both his colleagues and longtime friend Geoffrey Zakarian.

“They always cook for other people,” Flay said of the chefs from his competition series “Bobby’s Triple Threat.” “They never cook for me. So, you know we’ll take Tiffany, Michael and Brooke, for sure. They can do the hors d’oeuvres. But you know, I want Geoffrey Zakarian to cook the entree. He’s a great chef.”

“Bobby’s Triple Threat” returns for Season 4 on Sept. 2. People previously confirmed that chef Ayesha Nurdjaja will be joining Michael Voltaggio and Brooke Williamson as part of the show’s trio of culinary “titans.”

The new season will also mark the first since Flay and Williamson took their romance public earlier this year. Both chefs also appeared on the most recent season of “BBQ Brawl.”

Flay and Williamson on Cooking & Connection

Outside of competition, Flay has opened up about how much he enjoys working alongside Williamson — both in and out of the kitchen.

“I love working with Brooke,” he told People in June. “We have a lot in common. We’re very lucky. We’re both chefs. We both have kids. We’re both parents.”

Flay added that having a partner in the restaurant industry provides a unique kind of support. “Like we ask each other’s opinion about things that we’re doing food wise or restaurant wise or business wise, all the time. So it’s really nice to have kind of a best friend that you’re dating that can also be helpful answering the questions that you have.”

Season 4 of “Bobby’s Triple Threat” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 8:30 p.m. EST on Food Network.
