Iconic Chef Bobby Flay Reveals the 1 Thing He Dreads in the Kitchen

Even chefs with decades of experience have their weak spots. While answering fan questions on Instagram, celebrity chef Bobby Flay admitted there’s one kitchen task that still throws him off his game. The longtime Food Network star confessed he feels like a “fish out of water” when it comes to baking, though he says he still enjoys the challenge when it pops up on “Beat Bobby Flay.”

‘Not My Fave’

Flay frequently goes on social media to answer fans’ questions about his Food Network shows. During a recent Q&A, one of his fans asked, “When baking do you welcome it or go oh no … not again?”

Flay responded, “Not my fave. I’m a fish out of water, but I enjoy the challenge,” PEOPLE reported.

Another viewer asked who his dream guest would be for his podcast, “Bobby on the Beat.” Flay said it would be fellow chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck.

Flay Answers These Questions

As we stated, Bobby hosts many of these Q&A sessions on social media. He is always answering these questions, so does the busy chef and restaurateur truly answer them himself?

It turns out, he does! Flay talked with PEOPLE during the 2026 South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

Flay said, “I literally answer those questions, I swear to you, in less than four minutes. My team gives me the questions, they write through all the questions, they give them to me. I answer them right away. And I want them to be very spontaneous.”

What’s one of the more popular questions he gets? Anything about his girlfriend of a year, fellow Food Network star Brooke Williamson.

Flay said, “I think probably the most popular ones are when people ask me about Brooke and cooking and stuff like that, because for some reason, people are interested in my love life. I’m not really sure why, but they are. So have at it.”

Flay Starts a Podcast

Flay recently launched the “Bobby on the Beat” podcast, which he said has been “really fun.”

When talking about it, he said, “It’s informal and easy, and also I get to tell stories and get stories told by people in the industry in a way that they haven’t probably talked about their lives before. And ‘Bobby on the Beat,’ it’s all positive. We’re not looking for any gotcha moments or anything like that. It’s basically just to raise up everybody who participates in the industry.”

While it’s really fun to do, it comes with its own challenge, like “getting people to tune in.” However, he’s trying to push through it.

“I think you have to be patient and put out good quality content that people want to listen to and just basically continue to do it in a way that is beautiful,” Flay added.
