Demi Lovato Turns Her Food Struggles Into a Cookbook to Help Others Heal

Demi Lovato‘s latest venture — a cookbook — is the star’s hope to turn her own food struggles into inspiration for others.

The singer appeared on TODAY to share more about her hopes for the cookbook, which stretches far beyond recipes.

Demi Lovato’s Cookbook Is For Others Who Struggle with Food

On TODAY, Demi Lovato talked to Sheinelle Jones and guest co-host Ashley Graham about her latest venture.

The singer wrote her cookbook, “One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food,” to help others heal their relationships with food (via Macmillan Publishers).

“One Plate at a Time” was released on March 17, 2026.

While on the show, Lovato shared some yummy recipes from the cookbook. She highlighted her easy sesame noodles and chocolate chip fudge brownies.

“I think that this cookbook is going to help so many people in their journeys and recovery from disordered eating,” the singer shared. “Because it helps you to connect with the food.”

She added, “When you’re cooking for yourself, it’s a loving act of self-care.”

Jones asked what the first step is for someone to take in healing their relationship with food. To the singer, it’s realizing that “you are deserving of the food you are eating.”

Lovato admitted she herself still takes things “one plate at a time,” taking “baby steps” in her relationship with food. She hopes that readers will do the same.

Demi Lovato Gets Real About Her ‘Complicated Journey’ with Food

In the past, Demi Lovato has been transparent about her many health issues, including substance abuse and eating disorders.

A 2017 documentary, “Simply Complicated,” dived deeper into these parts of the singer’s journey, according to the Television Academy.

The “Masked Singer” star has also been open about her battle with bulimia and how she has struggled to cook and enjoy food.

“When I was first in recovery, I was so overwhelmed by food that stepping into a grocery store would make me break down into tears,” she told PEOPLE.

At the continual push of therapists and dieticians, Lovato finally started cooking for herself at the age of 30.

Lovato believes that her cookbook will help readers cut out some of that food noise they may be experiencing. “It’s just about getting in the kitchen and getting comfortable around cooking, and that will set you up for success later down the road with more recipes,” she further explained.

“One Plate at a Time” has over 80 tasty recipes, according to the outlet. The cookbook includes some staples Lovato enjoyed as a kid, including her “Classic Cheeseburger Deluxe” and “Drive Through Tacos.”

Lovato also shares how she found joy with food, giving readers a glimpse into her personal life, organization hacks, and intimate stories.

“I really want people to enjoy stepping foot into the kitchen — and finding freedom with food,” the singer said to PEOPLE.
