A ‘Gilmore Girls’ Christmas Movie!? Lauren Graham is On Board

After the 2025 Emmys celebrated the 25th anniversary of “Gilmore Girls” with an onstage reunion of onscreen mom-and-daughter duo Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, fans are begging for more. Reruns of the iconic series, which just began airing on Hallmark Channel, aren’t quite enough to quench their thirst for more “Gilmore Girls.”

The duo — who hadn’t appeared onstage together since 2017, per E! News — presented the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award on September 14, 2025, appearing in front of a replica of the front porch at their characters’ home in the fictional small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.

Nine years after the cast reunited for a four-episode Netflix event called “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” Graham told the Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet that if fans still want the gang back together (which they do!), she’d be up for a Christmas movie. Given that “Gilmore Girls” now airs on Hallmark Channel, the top TV destination for Christmas movies, that doesn’t sound like such a far-fetched idea.

Lauren Graham Says She Likes the Idea of ‘Gilmore Girls’ Cast Making a Christmas Movie

When asked on the Emmys red carpet whether she’d be open to a “Gilmore Girls” reboot, Graham told THR, “I thought we were done with that conversation, and I have realized we are not.”

The wholesome series, which aired from 2000 to 2007, included Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Keko Agena, and Kelly Bishop. Though a full series may be tough to pull off for everyone involved, Graham said they could potentially all come together for a film.

“I’ve been saying for a long time what I could see making sense is a Christmas movie in the tradition of ‘Downton Abbey’ or those other kinds of, you know, shows that are over but then kind of come together,” she told THR. “Especially around the holidays, I think that would be very ‘Gilmore’ friendly.”

“Also, like, in America, we don’t have enough holiday programming,” she added, and then laughed, “Football is not holiday programming!”

It wasn’t the first time Graham threw out the idea of a holiday movie. In March, while appearing on her “Parenthood” co-star Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, she said that if the cast were to reunite, “Given everyone’s lives and schedules, it’s a Christmas movie. It’s not me trying to get out of the (reboot) question. It is literally what I could picture.”

‘Gilmore Girls’ Screenwriter Said He’d Love to Write a Hallmark Movie

If the cast is game for a Christmas movie, there’s a good chance one of their lead writers, Stan Zimmerman, would be willing to take a crack at it.

In August, the screenwriter — whose other hit shows have included “Golden Girls” and “Roseanne” — told EntertainmentNow that he’d love to write a Hallmark Channel movie or series someday. He has loved — and clearly excelled at — writing shows about strong, complicated female characters.

Zimmerman, who released his book “The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore” in 2024, said, “As a writer, that’s just really exciting to kind of delve into all that messiness, but also, as funny as we like to be, it’s always based in reality, and it always comes from the heart.”

Lauren Graham & Alexis Bledel Joked at the Emmys About ‘Gilmore Girls’ Being a ‘Small Show’

During their Emmys reunion, Graham got a laugh when she started by telling the audience, “Twenty-five years ago, a show called ‘Gilmore Girls’ premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage.”

Bledel then said, “In spite of our autumnal dominance, ‘Gilmore’ was actually a very small show.”

Graham interjected, “Meaning we had no money.” Bledel agreed, “Nothing.”

“If there was a birthday at ‘The Drew Carey Show’ next door, they would send us their leftover sheet cake,” Graham quipped. “We walked in circles in Burbank, saying, ‘Hey, look how Connecticut it is here today.'”

“Gilmore Girls” moved to Hallmark Channel on August 25. Reruns now air on the cable network weekdays at 2 p.m. Eastern time and weekends at 8 a.m. Eastern time.
