‘Bargain Block’ Stars Share Emotional Goodbyes Before HGTV Series Finale

Hours before HGTV’s final episode of “Bargain Block” was scheduled to air on September 10, 2025, its stars bid farewell in emotional messages to fans, with designer Keith Bynum saying they were signing off with a sense of “grateful joy.”

In June, Bynum shared the shocking news that the Detroit-based renovation series had not been renewed for a fifth season by HGTV. However, there were still four unseen episodes left of “Bargain Block — co-starring Bynum’s longtime partner, Evan Thomas, and realtor Shea Hicks Whitfield. HGTV has been airing them each Wednesday night since late August.

The trio learned about HGTV’s decision in February and were caught off guard, already working on homes for a new season and scrambling to replace that income and visibility before revealing the news to fans four months later. Bynum was still angry at that point, he told People, but the outpouring of love they’ve received from fans has softened the blow and shifted him into a place of gratitude.

Keith Bynum Calls ‘Bargain Block’ Journey ‘Magical’

Posting a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the show, Bynum wrote in his farewell post, “I want to say thank you to so many people that helped us over the years make this show possible. Our film crew on the ground became a family to us. Our @ninedesignandhomes team never stopped amazing me through out the years. Our construction crews grew and honed their crafts to meet our ever changing demands in design. And the people of Detroit supported us every step of the way with love, respect, and kindness.”

Bynum continued, “I’ve wondered for years what this day would feel like and now i know. It’s a grateful joy. Evan, Shea and I experienced something that most people will only ever get to dream of and it was magical. I am grateful for every fan, viewer and critic because every bit of it helped us grow. We love you all so very much and hope you loved it as much as we did. We’ll see yall around! #detroitproud #detroitlove”

Hicks Whitfield replied to Bynum’s post, “Ok. This one got me… 🥹😫😭 Love y’all.”

The Detroit realtor also shared her own Instagram post, writing, “Tonight is bittersweet y’all 😩 It’s the final, final episode of #BargainBlock Keith and Evan took on a true Victorian beauty in a desirable, historic neighborhood… but let me tell you, this one came with all the drama. Cracked walls, ceilings falling down, and yes… the staircase was completely missing 😳. Some homes test your patience, but the transformation? Pure magic. ✨”

Keith Bynum Says Informing Fans of ‘Bargain Block’ Cancellation Helped Him Release His Anger

Bynum told People ahead of the series finale that informing their fans of the show’s cancellation was cathartic, explaining, “Announcing it helped release a lot of the anger that we had felt for months following (the news). We suffered for months, from February till June, and I finally was like, ‘I can’t take it anymore. I’m gonna say something.'”

“I’m glad I did, he added, “because what it did is it helped me get my anger out of me.”

Bynum told People that with the show’s cancellation, “our entire business was literally derailed,” explaining that their “revenue stream was built heavily off our television contracts” and they were focused on projects for the expected fifth season.

“We were just not in a place at all to prepare for (not having the show),” he said. “We just got caught with our pants down. And as a business owner, that’s the worst feeling in the world.”

Fortunately, he and Thomas have been able to shift their focus from renovations for the TV show to working for private clients in various cities, announcing on social media in May that they were taking on new clients.

Fans Express Sadness & Gratitude as ‘Bargain Block’ Ends

Although the “Bargain Block” cast has come to terms with the show’s cancellation, fans have had less time to process the news and many are still upset. Bynum’s post was flooded with comments from supporters, sad to see the show end but hopeful the stars will be picked up by another network or media entity.

“This one hit hard,” one viewer wrote. “Absolutely LOVE your show, energy, vibe, everything! Please keep your fans posted where we can watch you next.”

Another commented, “The whole cancellation thing is just utter BS. I hope another door opens. We will certainly miss you guys.”

“I’m so NOT HAPPY about this,” someone else chimed in. “This is the best renovation show on TV. It’s different and in such a good way. I love the unique creative designs, the giving back to the community, the love between everyone on the show. You don’t just watch this show, you feel this show. Y’all are down to earth, real people, working on neighborhoods that need it. What a beautiful group of souls you are. My mom and I will miss you so much. Keith and Evan 💕 Shea and family 💗 Missing you already. 😢”

“Bargain Block” is not the only HGTV show that won’t return for another season. It was the first of seven series whose stars have announced that the network did not renew their shows either. The series finale of “Bargain Block” airs on September 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
