The iconic HGTV couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, are giving back, honoring the place that helped shape Joanna’s early path and opening new doors for students who hope to follow in her footsteps.
McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, where Joanna began her academic journey before transferring to Baylor University, has partnered with the couple and their lifestyle brand Magnolia to introduce a new scholarship initiative.
Joanna attended the college for two years before continuing her studies at Baylor.
Magnolia Scholarship Aims to Remove Financial Barriers
Magnolia NetworkThe Magnolia Scholarship Endowment will support more than 50 students across Central Texas as they pursue college degrees or career training at McLennan Community College.
In a press release issued Wednesday, April 29, the school said the fund is intended to “remove financial barriers,” allowing students to focus on their education without the weight of tuition costs.
Applications open May 1, with the program set to roll out in the fall. The endowment will be managed through the MCC Foundation, which awarded more than $850,000 in scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Joanna Gaines Reflects on Her ‘Full-Circle Moment’
GettyFor Joanna, the initiative carries a deeply personal meaning. She described the opportunity to expand access to education as a “full-circle moment,” adding that it “opens doors for others following a similar path” to her own.
The program specifically focuses on students facing economic challenges, helping ease the burden of tuition so they can stay focused on their academic and career goals.
In a joint statement, Chip and Joanna emphasized the long-term impact of education.
“Education has the power to transform lives,” they said in the official press release, adding that they feel “honored” to help students “pursue their passions and chase after their dreams.”
This is not the first time the couple has invested in the institutions that shaped them. Earlier this year, they supported Baylor University’s baseball program, helping introduce Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark. The university described the contribution as the largest gift in the program’s history.
Joanna Gaines Shares Her Ideal Mother’s Day: Family, Food, and Meaningful Moments at the Table
GettyAs she embraces this new chapter of giving back, Gaines is also looking ahead to the moments that matter most at home. For her, Mother’s Day is not about grand gestures. It is about being together. Speaking to People, she shared that her ideal celebration is simple. “A perfect Mother’s Day for us is when everyone’s together,” she said.
“When I think about some of our best memories as a family, I think about the table — all of us gathered around, laughing, listening, swapping stories. So much life is experienced and shared at the table, which is what makes it one of my favorite places in our home.”
Rather than gifts, Joanna values the small, heartfelt moments most. “Really, all I ever hope for is a handwritten note,” she added. “Every now and then, I’ll get a drawing, handmade pottery, or art that I cherish.”
Chip and Joanna are parents to five children, Drake, 21, Ella, 19, Duke, 17, Emmie, 16, and Crew, 7, grounding their busy lives in the same values of togetherness and intention that continue to shape everything they do.
