Nate Berkus Prioritizes His Relationship
Barrymore sought advice from the interior designers. During their interview, she asked, āHow do you do it, since Iāve never had the luxury and the privilege of collaborating with my partner?ā
According to Berkus, it all comes down to prioritizing their marriage.
āOur relationship is always the most important thing,ā the 51-year-old explained on the talk show. āIt always is, because you know the truth is we do work together. And sometimes theyāre 14-hour days and then we come home and the kids are hungry or someone has a fever or whatever it is. And if we donāt put our relationship first before everything, then everything else falls apart. And so nothingās as important as that. Nothing.ā
In February, he admitted on āTodayā that while it can be āchallenging,ā the idea of spending those long work days away from Brent ādoesnāt sound fun to me.ā
Jeremiah Brent Wants to āChat It outā
Brent credits their success to open communication.
As he explained, āI like for us to sit down and chat it out so much to the point when we first met, Nate would be like, āWhat are we talking about now? Whatās left?āā
Though, his husband joked that he gets easily lost in the conversation when it goes on for too long. Berkus explained on the daytime show that he wants āthe box checkedā after discussing a topic for eight minutes.
Berkus previously explained to Heavy that the couple had found a āgrooveā to working with each other, one based on mutual respect.
āI think, you know, thereās a base level respect for each otherās creativity that is always present,ā he told Heavy. āSometimes it gets a little bit tense because someone will dig in their heels about a design decision. But you know, we also recognize that weāre designing these spaces both on TV and off TV for the people who actually live in them. And that is more important than any opinion either of us will have.ā
