If there’s one thing HGTV star Drew Scott knows, it’s interior design. After all, he and fellow Property Brother Johnathan Scott have built very successful careers from their design know-how. On August 28, 2025, Drew shared some of that wisdom with his social media followers by revealing his top three design icks — and what he suggests you do instead to create a beautiful living space.
The first design choice Drew firmly vetoed in his post was what he called “matchy-matchy everything with no personality.” Instead, he suggests that his followers build a layered space with strategically placed extras that add texture, visual interest, and personalization.
Drew Also Dislikes Pedestal Sinks and Off-the-wall Design Trends
GettyMany folks love a good pedestal sink, but Drew is not a fan — at least, not in a main bathroom. “Where do you put your toothbrush?!” the HGTV wisely asked in his post. According to Drew, choosing a built-in sink or vanity is the right way to go. These options give you the storage you need in a main bathroom while still being stylish.
Last on his list of icks is design trends that defy logic. “Who came up with toilet flowers and WHY?!” he asked, and included a photo of this highly unusual trend. Instead, he suggests prioritizing personal style and long-term appeal over ideas that may only work in social media photos. Drew’s simple advice can help fans demystify the design process, and his followers clearly appreciate it. The post garnered nearly 1000 likes and plenty of positive comments soon after the TV personality posted it.
The HGTV Star Went Back to His Roots in New Series
GettyDrew has plenty of opportunity to put those design skills to the test in 2025. Despite HGTV announcing a surprising number of cancellations in the summer, he and Johnathan will still return to America’s living rooms. One of their newest projects, “Chasing The West,” premiered on July 30, and the premise hits very close to home.
The show follows the brothers as they help families embrace life in the country, which is reminiscent of their own childhoods on a Canadian ranch. In an exclusive interview with People, Drew shared one of his fondest memories of that time. “In the evenings, I always loved having a campfire,” he explained. “My dad would play the guitar, and we would just sit and sing and watch the sun go down. That was magical.”
