Chip Gaines is nothing if not a prankster! It seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as the “Fixer Upper” star and his youngest son, Crew Gaines, hilariously pranked wife Joanna Gaines as the couple renovated their “Colorado Mountain House.”
Joanna Gaines ‘Terrified’ by Chip’s Pranks
The Magnolia owner was discussing paint palettes for their latest renovation when she was startled by an apparently hungry bear on the latest episode of “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.”
“We have a short timeframe here. So, there’s a lot to accomplish. So today—” Joanna said during the Tuesday, December 16, episode, before pausing mid-sentence, “What do we think that is?”
“It’s either Sasquatch, or Chip Gaines, but I did think that was a bear,” she added, remaining calm. “No! It’s not a bear…Is that a bear? That’s not Chip?!”
As she began to become frightened the HGTV favorite started panicking that her husband and youngest son were down by the river.
It seemed the production crew was not in on the joke, because the cameraman quickly ushered people inside the cabin.
When one assistant offered to go down to save Chip and Crew, Jo’s panic amplified.
“I don’t want her risking her life,” she said. “I don’t want anyone going!”
It didn’t take long for her to realize she was being pranked. Chip began walking toward the house in a full brown bear costume with his hands up.
“Chip! That’s terrifying! I literally was like, ‘He’s gonna eat Crew and you for lunch,'” she shouted. “I really was scared.”
According to Joanna, Chip’s antics are not surprising.
“This is the story of my life. He just loves to scare me,” she said. “But 90 percent of the time, I get him right before it. This one was successful. I legit was scared.”
Chip didn’t work alone, however. He had a partner in crime: 7-year-old Crew.
“Crew, were you in on this?” Joanna asked.
“Yes, ma’am,” Crew said, now wearing Chip’s bear head.

“Testing @joannagaines’ survival instincts…” the network captioned its Instagram video.
“Toto, we’re not in Waco anymore,” one follower commented.
“Well, honey, you ain’t in Texas no more! Welcome to Colorado,” another wrote.
“The amount of times I watched this,” a third laughed.
“That bear was just coming to welcome you,” another fan added.
