On December 16, Gaines took to Instagram to share a quick video of Ella arriving home from college, walking up the driveway with her luggage.
She noted in the caption, “Home for Christmas 🎄🥹✨🥰.”
As Ella approached, Crew burst out the door and down the porch steps, jumping into his sister’s arms for a hug.
Their gaggle of dogs surrounded the kids, happily wagging their tails, then the pooches followed them as they entered the house.
Fans flooded the comments section with messages about the sweet moment, with one person asking, “How is Ella is college though?! Time is flying!!!!”
Others shared, “Oh my heart. Does he say her name? 🥹 crying” and “The way he’s helping with the suitcase, so sweet!”

Joanna Gaines Got Choked Up About Her Daughter Going to College
During an August 19 appearance on the “Today” show, Gaines shared an update about her children, noting, “The kids are good. I have my oldest son [Drake, 20], now a junior in college.”
She continued, “I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. Every time he leaves, it’s not as hard.”
Ella leaving, however, turned out to be difficult. “She left last week. So it’s, like, still raw,” Gaines explained. “And it feels different because she went further and she’s my girl.”
“So I thought ‘Oh, I have this down with Drake’ … It’s totally different,” the “Fixer Upper” star shared.
Gaines also dished on whether she was involved with helping Ella decorate her dorm room. “She is very into design and she has her own unique style, so I stepped back,” she explained. “And I let her do the whole thing. So it was really what she wanted.”
On August 14, Gaines took to Instagram to share a photo of Ella’s bags packed for college. “Our little girl, all grown up,” she wrote in the caption.
One fan commented, “I heard this recently: While living with us, we are our children’s anchor; when our children move away, we become their lighthouse.”
