Joanna Gaines Debuts Home Cooking Show With No.1 Fan Crew Looking On

Joanna Gaines just debuted her latest show, and she’s giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her biggest little fan.

In a new Instagram post, the former HGTV designer previewed the September 7 premiere of “Magnolia Table: At the Farm” writing, “All my favorite comfort foods are just a day away 😍”

But while she didn’t mention it in the caption, her favorite sous chef was also on the scene.

As the series title implies, the show is shot at the Gaines’ home. The new set is the recently renovated butler’s pantry of their Waco, Texas farmhouse.

And that makes it easy for Joanna Gaines’ youngest son, 7-year-old Crew, to look on during filming.

In Joanna’s Instagram post, we see Crew watching on a monitor just outside the door to the butler’s pantry, where his mom is filming just a few feet away.

Joanna Gaines Calls Crew Her ‘Sidekick’

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot Crew looking on, writing, “Awe look Crew, admiring his mommy🙌😍”

Another wrote, “I love Crew overseeing.💙” and another comments, “that lil boy tho 💙”

Though one warned, “It’s hard to bake with sons. They eat the dough”

It’s no surprise that Joanna Gaines’ youngest son was on the scene. The “Mini Reni” designer has spoken many times about how much he loves to cook.

In an interview with Delish, Joanna said Crew is her constant sidekick.

“I can always wrangle him up anytime. He’s always by my side, so he’s really my sidekick in the kitchen, and he’s truly interested in how things work,” Gaines said. “He wants to touch it, he wants to do it, he wants to stir it. So I have a little cooking buddy with Crew. If anyone’s gonna be a chef in the Gaines family, I put my money on Crew.”

‘Magnolia Table: At the Farm’ Gets Personal

“Magnolia Table: At the Farm” is a continuation of Joanna Gaines’ “Magnolia Table” series that has aired for the past four years on the Magnolia Network.

But the original show was shot at “The Gristmill.

The Gristmill is a flour mill from the 1800’s on the outskirts of Waco. Joanna and husband Chip transformed into a set for “Magnolia Table.”

Even then, Joanna was trying to recreate a feeling of “home” for the show.

In a blog on magnolia.com last year, Joanna wrote, “I was told early on that most cooking shows are filmed in studios where variables like lighting and sound can be controlled, which all makes sense. But I struggled with the idea of it. I’d imagined something different—space that felt authentic, that radiated with the same warmth and familiarity of my own kitchen at home.”

Ultimately, Joanna Gaines decided she didn’t want to recreate the feel of being in her kitchen.

She wanted to actually BE in her kitchen.

And that means a much smaller crew, simpler recipes and fewer takes.

In an interview with Delish, Joanna says there will be no pre-made finished meal sitting off camera.

“I literally was like, If I burn it, we’re screwed. But who cares?” she laughs. “Every time we think about the next thing, we think about how we can connect to people in a way where they feel that gratitude, but they also feel that openness and that vulnerability.”

You can catch “Magnolia Table: At the Farm” on Magnolia Network and Food Network or streaming on HBO Max.
