Joanna Gaines taught us all to love shiplap, and now she’s schooling us on the best way to eat a cookie!
The former HGTV star has shifted her focus to baking with the debut of her new show on both her Magnolia Network and the Food Network called “Magnolia Table: At the Farm.”
As the series title implies, the show is shot at the Gaines’ home. The new set is the recently renovated butler’s pantry of their Waco, Texas farmhouse.
The homey setting lets Joanna dive into her favorite comfort foods, including fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies.
And for Joanna, there’s only one way to eat them.
Joanna Gaines Learned Her Cookie Dunking Method From Her Dad
In a new Instagram video, Joanna says, “I’m going to show you my favorite way to eat these cookies… My dad taught me this. Black coffee, a little bit of whipped cream, and you just dunk it.”
Joanna admits as she dunks the fluffy cookie in whipped cream, “I know this isn’t like groundbreaking, but when you try it, it’s so good.”
The “Mini Reni” designer takes the cookie straight from the plate of whipped cream and dunks it in the coffee.
“So this is how you make cookies,” Jo says, taking a bite. “And then you’re like, wow, there’s something about that coffee and that whipped cream that just add to the magic of the cookie, to take it from a 10 to a 12.”
‘Magnolia Table: At the Farm’ Focuses On Comfort Food
Joanna Gaines moved her cooking show to her family’s Waco, Texas farmhouse with the goal of scaling back and focusing on comfort food.
In an Instagram post explaining the show’s revamp, the former “Fixer Upper” star writes, “Magnolia Table is back! But with a bit of a twist.. Right before filming started I had the idea to film a new series right at home. We’re calling it Magnolia Table: At the Farm and we’re scaling a few things back this time … fewer cameras, quicker comfort recipes, and me in my favorite spot to play, create, and bake something fresh.”
“Magnolia Table: At the Farm” is a continuation of Joanna’s “Magnolia Table” series. It’s aired for the past four years on the Magnolia Network.
But the show was shot at “The Gristmill.” The Gristmill is a flour mill from the 1800’s on the outskirts of Waco. Joanna and husband Chip transformed into a set for “Magnolia Table.” Even then, Joanna was trying to recreate a feeling of “home” for the show.
Joanna Gaines Brings Her Cooking Show Home
In a blog on magnolia.com last year, Joanna wrote, “I was told early on that most cooking shows are filmed in studios where variables like lighting and sound can be controlled, which all makes sense. But I struggled with the idea of it. I’d imagined something different—space that felt authentic, that radiated with the same warmth and familiarity of my own kitchen at home.”
Ultimately, Joanna Gaines decided she didn’t want to recreate the feel of being in her kitchen.
She wanted to actually BE in her kitchen. And that means a much smaller crew, simpler recipes and fewer takes.
In an interview with Delish, Joanna says there will be no pre-made finished meal sitting off camera.
“I literally was like, If I burn it, we’re screwed. But who cares?” she laughs. “Every time we think about the next thing, we think about how we can connect to people in a way where they feel that gratitude, but they also feel that openness and that vulnerability.”
