Kim Wolfe is officially closing the door on hosting another full-fledged renovation series — but she’s still leaving it open a tad for fun guest appearances.
The “Survivor: One World” champion turned HGTV designer told TV Insider in an interview published May 12 that she has no plans to return to anchoring her own show. “I cannot ever again see myself doing a major home renovation show where I’m kind of bearing the brunt of the responsibility of pulling a show off,” Wolfe said.
After she won it all on “Survivor” in 2012, she threw herself and her passion into interior design, eventually launching Wolfe Home with husband Bryan, who left his own career to join the family business. The couple’s kids, Michael, August and Walt, were all in elementary school when HGTV came calling.
A Look Back at Wolfe’s HGTV Highlights
That call turned into “Why the Heck Did I Buy This House?,” which premiered in March of 2022 and pulled in a very impressive 15.4 million viewers over its debut season. Wolfe juggled seven San Antonio renovations at once over 24 weeks, a feat she jokingly compared to surviving 39 days on a desolate island. Season 2 aired in June 2023.
Between hosting gigs, Wolfe also served as a mentor on 2024’s “Battle on the Mountain” and made her way through “100 Day Dream Hotel.” But the project that brought her roaring back into HGTV’s primetime grid is “Rock the Block” Season 7, the network’s most star-studded edition yet, set in a 5,000-square-foot Las Vegas build with a $275,000 budget and a seven-week timeline.
Wolfe teamed up with longtime bestie Chelsea Meissner, her fellow “One World” finalist and an alum of Bravo’s “Southern Charm.” Wolfe designed Meissner’s home years ago, and the two BFFs have been a fun addition to the HGTC juggernaut this season.
Off-camera, the duo have been the season’s biggest pranksters, convincing rivals Mina Starsiak Hawk and Vernon Davis that “Survivor” contestants regularly drank their own urine to stay hydrated. (Spoiler” they did not). Starsiak Hawk’s incredulous reaction, captured on HGTV’s social channels, became one of the season’s viral moments.
Kim Wolfe Says Her Family Has Been Supportive of Her HGTV Gigs
Despite her popularity, Wolfe’s decision to be a guest star as opposed to the star of the show makes sense to those who have followed her career closely. Always family first, she frequently posts about her husband and three kids.
“They’ve supported me beautifully,” she told TV Insider about her family. “We spent a lot of time making sure that we were ready for me to go back and film another show, and everybody was on board and supportive. And it feels good to have a family that does support me going and having these adventures, and they’re the best. So, I couldn’t do it without them.”
In addition to her current gig on RTB, Wolfe is also lending her name to the retail circuit, teaming with Wayfair on a “Modern Americana” capsule. But anyone holding out hope for a “Why the Heck” revival should let it go. A weeklong competition is one thing — but don’t expect the fan fave to come back for much longer than that.
