Comedian and host Retta is back with a new season of “America’s Scariest Houses,” and fans are so ready for HGTV’s spooky season.
The network posted a new teaser video on Instagram that spoofs “American Horror Story,” complete with creepy dolls, a fog machine, graveyards and even Goatman.
And fans are here for the fun.
One commented, “Whoever made this is a genius.”
Another wrote, “Okay editors are having fun!”
And still another commented, “So. Hyped!”
‘Hello, Retta, Do You Still Like Scary Houses?’
Just like in season one of “Scariest House in America,” Retta travels the country to find horror movie-worthy homes in search of the creepiest of the creepy.
That scare-fest will land the most petrifying property a $150,000 makeover from fellow HGTV star Alison Victoria.
But first, Retta has to survive the search.
A press release from Warner Brothers Discovery about season two promises “This season, the frightening finds will include a former funeral home with a basement morgue, a house situated on a graveyard and a property that resembles a witch’s hat—all where spooky shadows lurk, lights flicker and strange noises abound.”
And while Retta was there for it, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s HERE for it.
“I did not see this iteration of this show coming,” said Retta in an HGTV press release. “I was cool with the summer road trip and ugly in paradise, but, for a gal that is spooked by every creak, critter and errant hair that brushes my shoulder, this wasn’t it. Glad I got through it, but I won’t lie and say I ‘enjoyed’ it.”
Retta Is Ready to Run If the Haunts Get to Horrible
Retta posted a clip on Instagram promoting the new season where she declares, “If anyone’s head spins around, this is the last episode that I’m doing.” In another scene she says, “Nah, homie, we out!”
The September 19 premiere will feature eerie homes in the eastern U.S. Including one that used to be a funeral home.
There, homeowners introduce Retta to a “corpse door.” They explain that’s a hidden door cut into the floor where “they would lift the bodies up through the floor” after preparing them for burial in the basement.
“There’s always a corpse door,” Retta says staring down the camera lens.
A reluctant Retta agrees to go down to that basement, with one homeowner saying, “You’ll be coming back out, Retta. Hopefully.”
While Retta makes the descent, she declares, “I don’t like basements.” She likes them even less after the owners show her the channel under the basement floor where morticians drained the blood from corpses.
In addition to the former funeral home, HGTV says the first episode will feature “eerie homes in the East, including a centuries-old, ghost-filled Maryland estate; a historic haunted house in Connecticut with a creepy attic; and an 1800s Georgia jail offering unexplained sights and sounds.”
You can catch the premiere of “Scariest Houses In America” Friday, September 19 at 9:00p.m. and streaming the next day on HBO Max and Discovery +.
