Esteemed ‘Ancient Aliens’ Host Passes Away After Brave Cancer Battle

Beloved voice of History Channel‘s “Ancient Aliens” Nick Pope sadly passed away on April 6 after a brave cancer battle. He was 60 years old.

Pope announced on Facebook in February that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer that metastasized to his liver.

Nick Pope Passes Away at Home in Tucson, Arizona

The UFO expert’s wife, Elizabeth Weiss, announced his death via X, writing, “My heart is breaking — Nick (@nickpopemod) passed away this afternoon at our home. The last few weeks of his life, even as he suffered, he managed to do a few interviews from home. I was so lucky to have met and to have married Nick. He was a wonderful husband. I loved him dearly.”

Pope is revered as one of the most prominent UFO researchers of our time. He formerly worked as a UFO investigator with the U.K. Ministry of Defence, the U.K.’s highest-level military headquarters.

According to his office website, Pope worked at the MoD for 21 years. Between 1991 and 1994, he ran their classified UFO project. Pope is quoted on his website saying that the MoD’s “role was to determine whether there was evidence of any potential threat to the defense of the United Kingdom, or anything of more general defense significance.”

His groundbreaking knowledge on aerial phenomena earned him the reputation of the real-life FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder of “The X-Files,” a science fiction TV series with a focus on paranormal and extraterrestrial activity.

Pope brought his UFO intelligence to the documentary “Ancient Aliens” for 16 years, having appeared in nearly 100 episodes since its inception in 2010, IMDb reported.

Nick Pope’s Statement to Fans Before Passing Away

According to his official website. Pope was a credited sounding board for many movies, television shows and video games. He worked alongside Tom Cruise to develop the sci-fi movie “War of the Worlds.” He promoted his UFO and extraterrestrial theories for “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” starring Keanu Reeves. Other notable films and TV series he helped create and spark media intrigue for include “Paul,” “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” “Alien: Covenant,” “Fringe” and more.

In his cancer announcement on February 12, Pope wrote an exceptional statement, detailing the pride he had for his work, the love he held for his wife and the impact his fans had on his life.

“What an amazing adventure l’ve had! A 21-year career at the UK Ministry of Defence, where I got involved in subjects ranging from financial policy to counter-terrorism; from military policing to UAP. And I saved six cows; it’s a long story!” he wrote. “The things l’ve done; the places I’ve been; the people I’ve met; and the secrets l’ve been privy to. I wouldn’t have swapped it for the world.”

“And then a second career, where my previous government UAP role brought me to the attention of the world’s media, leading me to become a regular commentator on TV news shows and documentaries, as well as consulting and acting as spokesperson on various UFO and alien-themed movies, TV series and video games,” Pope continued. “The media called me the real Fox Mulder! The true highlight, of course, is life with my wonderful, beautiful and incredibly smart wife, Elizabeth.”

RIP Nick Pope!
