Legendary AC/DC Guitarist Hospitalized Mid-Tour

AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young has been hospitalized in Argentina during the band’s ongoing tour, according to Reuters

The 69-year-old musician was admitted to a hospital in Buenos Aires “out of an abundance of caution,” a spokesperson told the outlet.

A Cause for Young’s Hospitalization Was Not Given

While the exact reason for his hospitalization has not been disclosed, he is reportedly undergoing a full set of medical tests.

Despite the unexpected development, there is reassurance coming from the band’s camp.

“Stevie is doing well and is in good spirits. He is looking forward to getting on stage on Monday,” the spokesperson revealed.

The timing comes in the middle of a busy stretch for the legendary rock group, which is currently touring South America as part of their Power Up tour.

The band had just performed in Santiago days earlier and is scheduled to play multiple shows in Buenos Aires on March 23, 27 and 31, per the band’s website.

Fans quickly took to social media to express their well wishes for Young as they wished his a speedy recovery.

Others expressed that they were sending him their prayers.

If all goes according to plan, Young is expected to rejoin his bandmates for the next concert, a sign that the situation may not be as serious as initially feared.

Young himself has been a key part of that legacy in recent years.

He officially joined the band in 2014, stepping in for his uncle, co-founder Malcolm Young, after he retired due to dementia.

However, his connection to AC/DC goes back even further, as he previously filled in during the band’s 1988 tour.

Young Talks About Being in His Uncle’s Band

Young talked about joining the band in a 2016 video interview, as reported by Louder Sound

He said he continues to study and refine his playing while honoring the legacy of Malcolm Young.

In a band video, he explained his daily approach: “I work out stuff all the time. I keep working away. Every day I listen and try to find bits that I missed, or something that Malcolm did that would help with the tunes.”

He added that his goal isn’t imitation, but preservation. “I’m not trying to imitate or copy him – but trying to keep the spirit of what he did in the band.”

The band’s current tour is set to continue beyond Argentina, with upcoming dates planned in Mexico City in early April.
