Pop star Ariana Grande has signaled the end of her platinum-blonde period and returned to her brunette roots with a new look unveiled on Instagram.
The singer posted a mirror selfie on Wednesday, Oct. 29 where she flaunted shoulder-length curls in a rich coffee-mocha hue and captioned the photo: “it’s good to see me, isn’t it? 🫧” — a subtle nod to one of her character’s lines from the upcoming film “Wicked: For Good”.
Grande had been embracing a blonde aesthetic for about three years in preparation for her role as Glinda in the “Wicked” film adaptation.
The transformation involved bleaching her hair and eyebrows; now, the shift back to brunette appears deliberate and symbolic — coinciding with the film’s press tour and signaling a return to her signature style.
All About the New Look
The new brunette shade was created by longtime colorist Francesco De Chiara, according to Vogue.
“We wanted a change and a new vibe for the ‘Wicked: For Good ‘press tour,” he told the outlet.
For the look, he interwove warm lowlights and gloss treatments to ensure vibrancy and depth, navigating the complexities of transitioning from blonde back to brunette.
“Going from blonde to brunette can be a journey,” he added. “The hair first needs to be re-pigmented with warmer tones before moving ahead with a darker color. And because blonde sits underneath, it’s important to keep refreshing the tone—not only to prevent fading, but to stop the lighter color from slowly reappearing.”
De Chiara also reposted the image Grande shared and added, “Here she is.”
Fans were quick to react to the stunning transformation.
“Ahhh brown hair is back!!” one fan wrote.
Another added, “I wasn’t ready for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍”
Grande Previously Dished About Becoming a Blonde
Grande spoke about needing to dye her hair for the role of Glinda in a September 2024 interview with Vogue.
“Even though I was wearing wigs, I needed to be blonde, too,” she added.
The “7 Rings” singer continued and said she needed to change her eyebrows as well because there was “a softness that Glinda has with the lighter brows. It didn’t make any sense when I had my dark brows.”
While her hair might be back to her natural color, Grande’s voice has slightly altered since she filmed “Wicked.”
She discussed with Variety in January of 2025 about how her voice has changed since filming the popular film.
“Maybe people underestimate how long we spent finding and disappearing into these women,” Grande stated. “So when certain inflections or mannerisms take time to melt away, sometimes people poke fun. But we had a job to do, and we had things to get lost in — because that’s what the piece required.”
