Demi Lovato Reveals How Her New Music Is Different

Demi Lovato will be releasing her ninth studio album on October 24, 2025, and she’s named it “It’s Not That Deep.” As it turns out, that’s more than just a title. It’s a key to the entire vibe of the star’s new music.

“I think it’s really a reflection of where I’m at personally,” she told Paper while talking about how her new album will be different from her past music. “I’m not in this place in my life where I need these huge emotional ballads to release some sort of deep emotional trauma I’m going through.”

“I realized that when I started making this project,” she continued. “I started writing songs like that, and they just weren’t resonating … heavy topics like that. I’m in a place in my life where my energy feels very light. I just got married.”

Lovato tied the knot with Jordan “Jutes” Lutes during an intimate wedding on May 25, 2025.

“It was a learning curve for me to take what I’ve always known about music, which is write what you know now,” she said. “I had to learn how to write what was new to me, and that’s what this album is a reflection of. The tone of my life is lighter. I wanted a project that reflected that.”

Lovato doesn’t want to delve into anything too serious on her new album and made sure that she kept things light.

“I think this album isn’t really about the killer deep lines,” the singer explained while talking to Paper about which lyrics in the new collection of songs she connects with more than any others.

“I guess the lyric that resonates the most to me is, ‘It’s not that deep,'” she said. “And then the follow-up to that is, ‘Unless you want it to be.’ So it’s like, some things are that deep. But for me personally, right now, this music is not that deep for me. That’s the energy I want to carry into this project with the music.”

“I just want to be happy,” she added. “That’s what this is about for me.”

Lovato ‘Waited [Her]’ Whole Life for Jutes

Marriage may be why Lovato is in a light and happy place in her life right now, and Jutes obviously has a lot to do with that fact. In September 2024, she opened up to People about her husband, saying, “You know, I’ve waited my whole life for him…”

“It’s very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring,” she went to on add. “And so, you know, it’s very easy to stay centered with him because I just — I love him so much and he treats me so amazing.”

In a birthday post shared via Instagram on August 20, Jutes wrote a message to Lovato, writing, “happy birthday to the love of my life. celebrating u every day for as long as I live. my lil partner in crime, I love u beyond words 😘🖤🎂 @ddlovato”

She responded with a comment, saying, “I LOVE U SOOOO MUCH 🥹🥹 thank u for loving me in a way i dreamt of being loved my whole life. i don’t know what id do without u baby. ps thank u for making today and every day so special 🥹🥹”
