A musician who performed with pop legends like Elton John and the late David Bowie has sadly passed away at the age of 89.
Terry Cox, the drummer with London-based folk rock band Pentangle, died on March 19. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
Formed in 1967, Pentangle’s original lineup consisted of Jacqui McShee (vocals), Bert Jansch (guitar/vocals), John Renbourn (guitar/vocals), Danny Thompson (double bass), and Cox (drums).
According to Far Out Magazine, before the band’s formation, Cox had already been working as a musician and live performer in London’s busy jazz club scene, which is where he met his future bandmate Thompson.
Per Discogs, as well as as performing on the aforementioned Elton John’s eponymous 1970 album, John’s 1971 record “Madman Across the Water,” and David Bowie’s eponymous 1969 album (which included the iconic “Space Oddity”), Cox also worked with the likes of the Bee Gees, Harold McNair, George Martin, Jade, and Rick Springfield.
The official Instagram account of Pentangle announced the sad news of his passing on March 24.
