David Bowie’s Wife & Daughter Share Their Thoughts on His Heavenly Birthday

David Bowie died ten years ago today, on January 10. It was days after he turned 69 on January 8. The world remembered the musician and the impact he left on the industry on his 2026 birthday, but some felt his loss more deeply. 


Celebrating David Bowie’s Heavenly Birthday

Bowie’s widow, Iman, and their daughter, Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones, left heartfelt tributes for Bowie on Instagram on what would have been his heavenly birthday. 

Lexi shared two throwback photos on Instagram. The first shows her as a child holding a homemade birthday cake. The cake is chocolate with fruit lining the edges, and in orange icing she had written, “Happy birthday, Dad.” Both of them are smiling into the camera. In the second photo, it is a close-up that shows how Lexi and her dad had the same smile. 

“Da big 79 today. Happy birthday pops, miss ya!” she wrote in the caption. 

Fans showed their support for Lexi in the post’s comments. “Very sweet. The world was a far better place with him here,” a comment reads. “Definitely been thinking about you today,” another fan shared.

Iman also celebrated Bowie on his heavenly birthday with a sweet post on Instagram. She shared a black-and-white photo of the musician. “Jan 8th Happy Heavenly Birthday Your light burns so bright in all our hearts! We love and miss you,” Iman wrote. She also included the hashtag, #BowieForever.


Remembering Iman & David Bowie’s Relationship

Iman and David Bowie had an incredible love story after meeting on a blind date in 1990. They got married on June 6, 1992, at the St James’ Episcopal Church in Florence, Italy, People reports. Their daughter Lexi was the couple’s only child, and she was born in August 2000. 

Bowie is still very much a part of Iman’s life, and in a 2021 interview with People, she shared that she prefers tha Bowie not be referred to as her late husband. “I still feel married,” she said. “Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband, and I said, ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.’ Through my memory, my love lives.” She also shared that she has no desire to get remarried, People reports. 

Iman has kept Bowie’s memory alive, including sharing sweet photos of their wedding day on what would have been their wedding anniversary. Fans have continued to show their support for her.
