Puerto Rican musician, record producer, and actor Louie Louie has tragically passed away. He was just 63 years old.
Per Discogs, the beloved star — whose real name was Louis Edmond Cordero — had a string of hits in the 1980s and 1990s. Most notably, “Sittin’ in the Lap of Luxury” and “I Wanna Get Back with You” both charted in the United States in 1990.
His other singles included 1986’s “Let’s Get Started,” 1987’s “The Girl Who Seduced the World,” and 1993’s “Walk With Me.” His most popular album was 1990’s “The State I’m In.”
In total, the popular performer released three albums, as well as eight singles and EPs.
Famously, he played Madonna’s love interest in the music video for Madonna’s 1983 hit “Borderline.”
He passed away on March 20. His brother, Ray Cordero, took to social media on March 21 to announce the sad news.
Ray Cordero Praises ‘Amazing Brother’ Louie Louie
In a Facebook post about his brother Louie Louie’s passing, his brother Ray Cordero included a single picture of the star.
The caption on the post read, “An amazing brother, son, friend, partner, musician, producer, band leader.”
It concluded, “He left us all to soon. His songs will live on along with such great memories. Viva Heaven my beloved brother.”
Dozen’s of Ray’s friends commented to pay their respects, with one user writing, “Wow! So young! I remember him when we worked together, selling shoes at Sears. He always entertained us, dancing in women’s size 11 pumps!”
One friend of Ray’s said, “I didn’t know Louie as well as I knew you. Ray. I’d see him every week though, especially on Wednesday nights at Deja Vu where he often won the dance contest competition. An amazing man he was…We’ll see you again Louie. God bless you.”
Someone else close to the Cordero family commented, “This news hit me hard and was a complete shock. Louie was my friend and part of our online ministry. We created music together, wrote songs together, studied the Bible together and shared big dreams. We miss him. Condolences to all.”
Finally, someone said, “What? You have got to be kidding me. To my long family friends I am so sorry to hear the news. My love and condolences. Hugs to you all.”
But it wasn’t just Facebook on which people were expressing their sadness at the star’s passing.
Fans Also Mourned the Loss of the Star on Instagram
Instagram users who loved Louie Louie also expressed their views about his passing on the popular platform.
In one post on an Australian Madonna fan account, there were two pictures of the Queen of Pop with the late star on the set of “Borderline’s” music video. It was captioned, “Rest In Peace Louie Louie 1962-2026 💔🙏.”
One fan headed to the comments section and wrote, “He was gorgeous, RIP 🙏🏻.”
Another post on a Club MTV Fan Zone account featured a picture of the star on the popular show, with his single “Sittin’ in the Lap of Luxury” playing over the top of it.
The post is captioned, “Sad news: singer Louie Louie has passed. From appearing in Madonna’s “Borderline” video to landing in Club MTV rotation in 1990 with his own hit “Sittin’ in the Lap of Luxury,” he will be missed.”
One commenter wrote, “RIP Louie. Oh wow he appeared on the show in person? Def post his appearance if or when ya can please 🙏.”
Someone else simply wrote, “Oh, that’s sad to hear. 😪❤️”
No cause of death has yet been disclosed for the beloved star. Still, we send our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Louis Edmond Cordero, better known as Louie Louie, at this difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace.
