Beloved Soap Star Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

Beloved actor Tony Caunter has sadly passed away. Many fans will know him from the popular British soap opera “EastEnders,” where he appeared from 1994 to 2003. He passed away on October 13 at the age of 88. Notably, his passing comes just days after his wife also died.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, his family released a statement on October 14. They said, “It is with enormous sadness that we bring the curtain down on our wonderful and hugely loved father. He will be missed by all.”

The report states that Caunter passed away at Eastbourne District General Hospital. The family also said that the beloved actor passed away “peacefully.” He leaves behind three sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Fran, passed away eight days before Caunter at the age of 63.


Tributes Are Pouring In For Caunter

Caunter is primarily known in various parts of Europe, but EastEnders is popular worldwide. As a result, many are taking to social media to pay tribute to the beloved actor.

One person said of Caunter on X, “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the ex EastEnders actor Tony Caunter, aka Roy Evans, during this very sad and difficult time. His memories and his legacy will be remembered forever by all of those who worked alongside him on Eastenders.”

Someone else wrote, “Sad to hear about the passing of Tony Caunter – Henry Diamond in Series 1 of Big Deal and later of course his better known role as Roy Evans in EastEnders.”

Another fan wrote, “RIP Tony Caunter, gone but certainly never forgotten. My heartfelt prayers 🙏 and condolences go out to Tony Caunter’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time for them all right 💔❤️😢now.”

Finally, someone else stated, “RIP Tony Caunter, whose many TV appearances include three roles in Doctor Who and most famously of all, expert cheese-on-toast thrower, Roy in EastEnders.”


He Leaves Behind a Brilliant Legacy

According to IMDb, Caunter began his legendary acting career in the early 1960s. It started with a role on the TV series “The Sword in the Web.” After that, he made several appearances in various shows. This includes five episodes of “The Big Spender” in 1965.

One of his first lengthy tenures on television came in 1966 with “United!” Caunter remained on the series for 57 episodes. From there, he appeared in “Beryl’s Lot” from 1973 to 1977. That’s not all, he was also cast in “Doctor Who,” appearing in episodes from 1965 to 1983.

He continued acting throughout the 1990s and 00s. His final on-screen role was in 2016’s “The National Union of Space People.” Caunter will be missed!
