Beloved Grammy-Winning Singer Passes Away at 51: Tributes Pour In

R&B singer D’Angelo has tragically passed away at the age of 51 from pancreatic cancer, TMZ reports. He passed away on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 14 in New York City, family sources as well as his former manager Kedar Massenberg told the outlet.

Throughout his career, D’Angelo won four Grammy awards, including Best R&B Album for “Voodoo” in 2001 and “Black Messiah” in 2016. In 2016 he also won Best R&B Song for “Really Love” and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”

D’Angelo is survived by his two sons and his daughter.


D’Angelo’s Family Releases Statement Following His Passing

D’Angelo’s family confirmed news of his passing, releasing a statement to Variety.

“The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life…After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025. We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.  We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”


DJ Premier Shares Heartfelt Message

DJ Premier collaborated on D’Angelo’s 1998 track “Devil’s Pie,” and he posted a sweet message, celebrating the soul singer’s legacy.

“Such a sad loss to the passing of D’angelo. We have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D’ Love You KING,” he wrote on X.


Tributes Pour In For D’Angelo

Following news of D’Angelo’s passing, many people took to social media, posting heartfelt tributes for the singer.

“he was so incredibly talented. Such a sad loss in music. RIP,” one person commented.

“This is devastating, I still listen to the brown sugar album front to back at least once a week,” another person wrote.

“His music will live with us forever,” one fan said.


D’Angelo and Angie Stone Share A Son

Angie Stone and D’Angelo began dating in 1994, having met while working on his first album, “Brown Sugar.” The two welcomed their son, Michael Archer Jr, in 1997, but the two ended their relationship in 1999.

Earlier this year, Stone tragically passed away at the age of 63 in a car crash, and the son she and D’Angelo share posted a sweet tribute to his mother.

“Hey mama, I ain’t want nothing, just wanted to say I love you ……. I know you up there enjoying your god body 😂 I hope you got to see grandma and granddaddy …….i want you know how proud I am at the person you are…. I want you to know how much you inspired me every single day …… you never failed me ever ever….you never were a burden to me EVER … if I had to do it all again I wouldn’t change nothing….im so grateful for the lessons that I learned from you, I hope to one day be as good to my kids as you were to me…..I just wanted to you to know that I got it from here , imma be okay… and imma LONG LIVE YOU 4Ever🕊️ love you mama,” he posted on Instagram.

  1. How beautiful is it that he loved his Mother so very much,his music moved so many of us….but this post moves me even deeper into seeing the man he was and that he loved his mother deeply…that is the a true son and man!
