Popular Folk Singer Passes Away at 72- She Will Be Missed

Fans of Irish folk music are in mourning as Dolores Keane has sadly passed away. Keane first gained fame in the 1970s as a member of the group De Dannan. She later launched a successful solo career, with hits like “The Island,” “Caledonia,” and Lion in a Cage.” Now, tributes are pouring in.

The Irish Times announced Keane’s passing on March 16. The outlet reported that the singer passed away in her sleep while at her home in Caherlistrane.

Fiddle player Frankie Gavin also spoke to The Irish Times about her passing. He said, “Her personality just melted the hearts of everyone in Ireland. She was a wonderful personality. The kindest individual you could ever meet.” He also called Keane an “extraordinary singer” who has a “rich legacy.”

According to The Irish News, some of her most remembered songs include “There Was a Maid,””Broken Hearted,” “I’ll Wander,” and “Solid Ground.” Her version of Dougie MacLean’s “Caledonia” is also celebrated.
