Performing at the Super Bowl is the kind of gig most artists dream about. It becomes an instant global spotlight, immediate cultural impact, and bragging rights for life. But when Bad Bunny takes the halftime stage in 2026, the biggest surprise won’t be the set list or the spectacle. Instead, it’s going to be the paycheck he earns. Despite headlining one of the most-watched events on Earth, the Latin superstar is set to earn shockingly little for the performance, raising the obvious question: why do megastars keep saying yes?
Super Bowl Halftime Show
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the world’s most-watched performances, drawing more than 100 million viewers, the Associated Press reported. We have seen some A-list headliners over the years, including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Kendrick Lamar.
For the 2026 Super Bowl in San Francisco, Bad Bunny, the 31-year-old Puerto Rican superstar, is hitting the stage at halftime. He amassed 19.8 billion streams on Spotify in 2025, which made him the year’s most-streamed artist.
His massive listenership shows the growing popularity of Latin music worldwide. The selection of Bad Bunny has been controversial, especially since he’ll be performing most of the set in Spanish. The NFL realized that Hispanic viewers make up one of the most important new demographics, increasing by 11% in recent years.
How Much Is Bad Bunny Paid to Play the Super Bowl 2026 Halftime Show?
These halftime performers don’t get paid a certain amount by the NFL. In fact, Super Bowl halftime performers are never paid appearance fees for their roles in the show by the NFL.
Bad Bunny will get a small amount to perform in the halftime show. Performers typically receive the standard union-mandated fee through the SAG-AFTRA. In July 2025, the SAG day rate for basic theatrical agreements was $1,246 a day.
Based on that, Bad Bunny would walk away from this halftime gig making $1,246! It’s not much, but this gig is all about visibility.
According to Newsweek, these performers basically play for free because the visibility they receive is priceless. They enjoy huge spikes in music sales, with streams of Lamar’s “Nothing Like Us” increased by 430% on Spotify.
Streams of Jennifer Lopez’s music jumped 335% after she performed in 2020, while her co-star Shakira increased by 230%. This isn’t his first appearance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, as he previously appeared with Lopez and Shakira during the halftime show in 2020.
How Much Have Other Halftime Performers Been Paid?
The NFL has never paid any of its performers any huge compensation. The performers get the “union scale” fee, which starts at just a few hundred dollars.
In 2021, JLo and Shakira each made $1,030 for their appearance. In 2024, Usher made $671 for his halftime show performance.
The NFL does cover travel expenses, which include lodging for the rest of the time the performer is at the Super Bowl.

Well that’s $1246 too much.
Still highly overpaid! People with half a brain may stream his music? No doubt the same half brains who vote for Democrats? But calling this jackass a music performer is really quite a stretch! When anything this performer wantabe goes platinum then you can tell me he belongs in a half time show! Otherwise he/she has no business being in a half time show EVER!!! I won’t be watching the Superbowl because this idiot will be there.
