“Song Sung Blue” star Kate Hudson became a mom for the first time after giving birth to son Ryder at age 23, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve had kids my whole adult life.”
Kate Hudson Opens Up About Being a Young Mom
Hudson, 46, opened up about having children at a young age in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s a pretty interesting reflection at 46, realizing I left high school, I got ‘Almost Famous’, and then I got pregnant and had a baby and had kids really fast,” she told the outlet in an interview published January 8.
She went on to explain that her latest film, “Song Sung Blue,” was the first time she was able to leave her children to work on a project.
“My daughter was turning 6, and it was the first time I didn’t have a really very young child, and I was able to work on my craft,” Hudson told the outlet, explaining that she would leave for two and a half weeks and return for a weekend throughout the filming process. “It makes me think about mothers who make these decisions to leave their family to go make movies like this. It takes a lot. You need to give yourself permission to be okay not being 100 percent present for them for 100 percent of the day.”
Hudson added, “The campaigning is extensive and exciting now, but it’s been a long time — it’s changed a lot since ‘Almost Famous’ — and I am surprised by how many things there are to do.”
The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star shares son Ryder, 22, with ex-husband Chris Robinson. She later welcomed son Bingham “Bing,” 14, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy and daughter Rani, 7, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
Kate Hudson Previously Gushed About Motherhood
While promoting her film alongside costar Hugh Jackman, Hudson details how she manages as a mother of three children at different stages of childhood.
“I have an adult who is graduating from college in May,” she said during an appearance on TODAY.
When asked by host Jenna Bush Hager how she parents a child “in every age group,” Hudson admitted, “I’m just doing the best I can.”
“It’s actually been really interesting because I’ve been able to spend so much good time in the early stages—like from baby to about three—being so connected to the baby,” she explained. “But they’re all seven and a half years apart. Yeah, 21, 14 and 7. It’s awesome. I mean, I’ve been a mom…It’s like I left high school and I got pregnant. So my whole life, I’ve just been ‘Mom.'”
