Lil Nas X Given Chance to Prioritize Mental Health Based on Court Decision

Lil Nas X, who was born Montero Hill, will finally be able to put his legal situation behind him after a judge accepted his motion to enter a mental health program to resolve his felony police battery case.

The decision was made during a court hearing in Los Angeles on Monday, April 6, where the judge said the singer “appears to be doing very well,” Rolling Stone reports. The judge further added that Hill’s actions, when he was arrested in August 2025 and charged with four felonies, were “aberrant from his normal conduct.”

As long as the Grammy-winning artist complies with his treatment plan and stays out of trouble for the next two years, the case will ultimately be dismissed. He faced five years in prison if convicted.

“When treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off,” the judge said.

Lil Nas X Is ‘Thankful’ For The Judge’s Ruling

After court, Hill spoke with Rolling Stone regarding the judge’s ruling.

“I’m thankful. Just very thankful. It could have been much worse,” Hill said. “[I’m] just going through the flow of life.”

Many fans also took to social media, showing support for the singer following this decision.

“oh lil nas x you are so missed and i hope this journey forward leads him into a healthy, fulfilling, joyful life,” one person wrote.

“That’s amazing news! I’m glad the judge had some sense. I wish Lil Nas X a full recovery. I hope he gets all of the help he needs,” another person shared.

“I’m so glad Lil’ Nas X is doing better,” someone posted.

Lil Nas X’s Father Spoke Out Following Initial Incident

US rapper Lil Nas X arrives at the Los Angeles Superior Court Van Nuys Courthouse in Los Angeles, California, on March 12, 2026.

After Lil Nas X was charged in August, the singer’s father, Robert Stafford, spoke with reporters, providing an update on his son, saying they were focused on getting him help, while denying that it had anything to do with drug abuse.

Stafford said that his son is “doing well mentally,” beginning his comments by saying, “God is good. God has a plan.” He added that Hill is “in good spirits.”

“He’s alright,” Stafford added. “He’s very remorseful for what happened. It can happen to any family, but he’s gonna get the help that he needs.”

He then asked fans to “keep him in your prayers.”
