Martin Garrix is taking time off to focus on his health following an emergency hospitalization. The award-winning DJ and producer underwent surgery for appendicitis this week at Amsterdam’s VU University Medical Center.
Garrix shared an update on Tuesday, confirming he will no longer perform at the Festival Internacional del Globo in Mexico, where he was scheduled to headline on Saturday, November 16.
Garrix Cancels Mexico Performance After Health Scare
“I’m truly heartbroken to share that due to an unexpected case of appendicitis and the surgery that followed, I’m unable to perform at the Festival Internacional del Globo this Saturday,” Garrix wrote in a statement on social media.
“My doctors and team have strongly advised me to rest and recover to avoid any post-surgery complications,” he continued, including a photo of himself smiling from his hospital bed.
The festival in León, running from November 14–17, features more than 200 hot air balloons from around the world, along with live musical performances.
Fellow Artists Send Love & Support

Garrix also reflected on the experience, saying it served as a much-needed reminder to slow down. “A good reminder for me that I’m human too, and my body needs some extra time to properly heal,” he added.
What’s Next for Martin Garrix
Garrix’s following scheduled shows are set for November 21 at Omnia Nightclub in Las Vegas and November 22 at Palm Tree Beach Club. It remains unclear whether he will perform at those events, but the DJ is expected to take the necessary time to rest before his next confirmed gig — a December 27 performance at Club 415 in Brazil.
Fans around the world continue to send messages of encouragement as the 28-year-old EDM superstar focuses on recovery.
Garrix discovered his love for music early, picking up the guitar at just eight years old. But it was watching Tiësto’s unforgettable performance at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens that truly sparked his passion for electronic sound.
Getty“My mom sat me down in front of the TV, and I just fell in love with the sound,” he recalled. “Some of the songs didn’t even have lyrics, but everybody still understood them. That really stuck with me.”
From there, his creative path shifted. “I started out writing songs on guitar,” he explained. “Then I thought, ‘What if I take these melodies, put them into a computer, and turn them into electronic music?’ That’s where it all began.”

People please? All this guy does is play somebody else’s music! I could teach my dog to do that! He’s not a musician, not a singer, actually not an artist of any kind!!! But he’s somebody who makes news for an appendectomy???? Really??? Give me a break!!!!
