In January 2025, Paris Jackson bravely announced on social media that she’s a recovering addict from heroin and alcohol. Now in November, she’s speaking out about some of the effects her former habits have had on her body – namely her nose. The 27-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson said her “loud whistle” that can be heard when she breathes through her nose was caused by drug-induced structural damage.

Paris doesn’t often play into social media discourse surrounding her life, but when The Shade Room, an Instagram news page, reposted the video about her nose, Paris, who People says was recently honored with the Friendly House “Shining Star Award” for her work with the Los Angeles area rehabilitation program, hit the comments to clarify why she’s publicly opening up about her healing journey. She wrote in a rare comment on the page, “To the people wondering why I shared this, it’s not for you. As a recovering heroin/fentanyl/cocaine/alcohol/etc. addict, it’s part of my primary purpose to carry the message of recovery to others struggling with it.”
At the event, Paris said of getting sober, “I didn’t just get my life back. I got a better one.”
GettyThe “Notes On a Ghost” singer continued by saying she doesn’t want to promote drug use, but instead aims “just to carry the message.” She went on, “If this isn’t something you relate to, it’s totally understandable why it would be confusing for you. And that’s totally okay. It’s just a different life experience.”
She concluded her message by imploring readers to “just know that this is for other people that are either also in recovery, or haven’t found it yet” before signing off, “Much love!”
Fans in The Shade Room’s comments left Paris a lot of support. One wrote, “I support anyone’s sobriety journey. Public or private. Go girl! Keeping going.”
Another said, “I love that she uses her platform to help someone else reach her level of sobriety.”
Paris Jackson Revealed Addiction Left a Hole In Her Nose
“I have a really loud whistle. That is because I have what is called a perforated septum. that is what you think it’s from,” the Stella McCartney model told her followers. She continued, “Don’t do drugs kids,” before backtracking, “I’m not gonna tell anyone what to do, but I don’t recommend it cause it ruined my life. I’ve been living with this since I was about 20. I can actually stick a spaghetti noodle through it.”
She revealed she doesn’t want to undergo surgery to repair because it would necessitate pain pills, and she doesn’t want to risk a setback to her nearly six years sober.
