When contestants perform at beauty pageants, they often deliver lilting songs or a delicate dance. But when Ignacia Fernández stepped onto the stage during the Miss World Chile 2025 semifinals, Vice notes that “she brought out her bandmate, guitarist Carlos Palma, to do one of their songs with her for the performance portion of the competition.” But they didn’t just deliver any ol’ performance. They belted out a death metal tune.
A model and “founder of Chilean progressive death metal band Decessus,” Ignacia apparently shocked the judges with her jaw-dropping performance.
In a video she posted to Instagram, you can see her in a trendy sheer dress with black lace panels and solid sections that swept down to the floor and pooled around her. She also wore her hair down in beautiful waves, looking like a true beauty queen. However, when she opened her mouth to sing, she growled like a true death metal queen.
Ignacia Shared What Metal Means to Her
Along with the video that Ignacia shared via social media, she also wrote a caption about her connection to her music.
“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” she wrote (translated by Instagram). “Being able to express it on stage at @chilevision and @misschilemundo was an opportunity I deeply value.”
“It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others,” she added.
She then wrote, “Thanks to my band @carlospalmaofficial and @decessus_official for accompanying me and to everyone who has shown their support 🤘❤️ horns up.”
