Marianne Faithfull

Jan. 30, 2025; age 78

British singer and actress Marianne Faithfull’s career was defined by her haunting voice and enduring presence in rock and folk music after her 1960s breakthrough with “As Tears Go By.”

Her artful contributions and resilient public persona made her a lasting influence across generations.  


Rick Buckler

Feb. 17, 2025; age 69

Rick Buckler, drummer for the influential British band The Jam, helped drive the group’s energetic punk-inflected sound that produced UK chart toppers like “Going Underground” and “Town Called Malice.”

His rhythmic punch anchored a movement that resonated with youth culture in the late 1970s and early ’80s.  


Roberta Flack

Feb. 24, 2025; age 88

Soulful and serene, Roberta Flack’s voice was an emblem of grace in R&B and jazz-influenced pop.

Her signature “Killing Me Softly With His Song” remains one of music’s most poignant ballads, emblematic of her emotional depth and timeless appeal.  


Roy Ayers

March 4, 2025; age 84

Vibraphonist and bandleader Roy Ayers blended jazz, soul and funk into a forward-looking sound that influenced generations of musicians, from jazz enthusiasts to hip-hop producers who sampled his grooves.

His leadership of Roy Ayers Ubiquity helped define the fusion movement of the 1970s.  


Brian James

March 6, 2025; age 74

As a founding member of British punk trailblazers The Damned, Brian James wrote “New Rose,” considered among the first true British punk singles.

His early work helped lay the foundation for punk’s raw ethos and enduring cultural impact.  


Sly Stone

June 9, 2025; age 82

Sly Stone led Sly and the Family Stone, a groundbreaking group whose fusion of funk, soul and psychedelic rock produced enduring anthems like “Dance to the Music” and championed unity and social consciousness.

His influence echoes throughout funk and beyond.  


Brian Wilson

June 11, 2025; age 82

Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson was one of rock’s most innovative composers, crafting lush harmonies and transformative albums such as “Pet Sounds.”

His visionary songwriting helped redefine pop music’s artistic potential.  


Patrick Walden

June 20, 2025; age 46

Guitarist Patrick Walden co-wrote tracks for Babyshambles, contributing to the post-Libertines British indie scene.

His creative work helped shape the band’s early sound before his untimely passing.  


Connie Francis

July 16, 2025; age 87

One of the most successful female pop artists of the late 1950s and early ’60s, Connie Francis scored multiple hits including “Who’s Sorry Now” and “Stupid Cupid.”

Her music captivated audiences worldwide and inspired future generations of performers.  


Ozzy Osbourne

July 22, 2025; age 76

Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, known as the “Prince of Darkness” and frontman of Black Sabbath, helped pioneer heavy metal with a powerful blend of dark imagery and blistering riffs.

His influence on hard rock and metal is immeasurable.  


Rick Davies

Sept. 6, 2025; age 81

Founder and frontman of Supertramp, Rick Davies lent his distinct voice and songwriting to hits like “Breakfast in America” and “Give a Little Bit.”

His blend of thoughtful lyrics and melodic craftsmanship anchored the band’s international success.  


John Lodge

Oct. 10, 2025; age 82

Bass guitarist and songwriter for The Moody Blues, John Lodge contributed to the band’s rich tapestry of symphonic rock, penning songs such as “Ride My See-Saw” and “Isn’t Life Strange,” helping cement the group’s legacy.  


D’Angelo

Oct. 14, 2025; age 51

Soul artist D’Angelo was a leading voice in modern R&B, blending classic soul sensibilities with contemporary artistry on acclaimed albums like “Voodoo” and “Black Messiah.”

His music reshaped neo-soul for a new era.  


Ace Frehley

Oct. 16, 2025; age 74

Co-founder and original lead guitarist for KISS, Ace Frehley’s space-themed persona and blistering solos were central to the band’s explosive rise and rock theatrics.

His work helped define stadium hard rock of the 1970s.  


Sam Rivers

Oct. 18, 2025; age 48

Founding bassist of Limp Bizkit, Sam Rivers helped the band achieve mainstream crossover success in the late 1990s with aggressive, groove-driven rock that dominated radio and MTV.  


Dave Ball

Oct. 22, 2025; age 66

Half of synth-pop duo Soft Cell, Dave Ball was instrumental in shaping the 1980s electronic sound with hits such as “Tainted Love.”

His innovative production influenced electronic pop for decades.  


Gary “Mani” Mounfield

Nov. 20, 2025; age 63

Renowned bassist for The Stone Roses and later Primal Scream, Mani’s deep grooves and creative spirit were key to the sound of British alternative rock in the late 1980s and ’90s.


Jimmy Cliff

Nov. 24, 2025; age 81

Reggae pioneer Jimmy Cliff helped bring Jamaican music to global audiences with classics like “I Can See Clearly Now” and “Wonderful World, Beautiful People,” leaving an enduring impact on reggae and world music.


Steve Cropper

Dec. 3, 2025; age 84

Guitarist and producer Steve Cropper was a central figure at Stax Records and with Booker T. & the MG’s, helping craft the sound of soul classics such as “Green Onions” and influencing generations of R&B and rock musicians.  


Raul Malo

Dec. 8, 2025; age 60

Frontman of The Mavericks, Raul Malo was celebrated for his dynamic voice and genre-blending style that merged country, rock and Latin influences, making him a distinctive figure in contemporary Americana music.
