73-Year Old Rapper Shares Crazy Health Update After Terrifying On-Stage Collapse

Pete Bowditch is addressing fans after a frightening onstage incident that left many worried about his condition. The rapper, one half of the viral duo Pete and Bas, appeared to lose consciousness while suspended in a harness above the stage during a Chicago performance on March 16.

Video from the show captured the moment he dropped his microphone and hung above a group of dancers as the track continued to play. Videos of the terrifying incident quickly circulated online, prompting an outpouring of concern from fans following the sudden collapse.

Days later, Bowditch reassured followers with a video update from his hospital bed.

“Right people, it looks like I’m alive. Happy days.”

He added, “The wife’s brought me in a takeaway pint too, so I’m finally feeling like myself again. Now, Bas and I will be going on a massive 14-date US tour in June to celebrate. See you there, people, hallelujah.”

In the clip, he also addressed the incident’s dramatic nature.

“Now people as you know, recently I was pronounced dead on stage. The doctors managed to bring me back. To celebrate that, we’re announcing a tour to America.”

Bowditch and his longtime collaborator, Bas (real name is Basil Bellgrave), formed Pete and Bas in 2017.

The London-based duo, both in their 70s, gained attention for their unique take on rap music, blending storytelling with modern drill influences.

Bowditch previously told BBC News in 2021, “I talk to my grandkids and their friends, and they just let us know the new idioms – what’s going on now. For example, we always thought we were good, then they say sick, they say fire, then they say you’re cold, but it all means the same thing.”

The pair went on to release their first single, “Shut Ya Mouth,” on YouTube before building a growing fan base and performing across major European cities.

They released their debut album “Mugshot” in 2024 and are set to continue touring, with upcoming European dates still scheduled.

In a statement shared on Instagram, their team confirmed Bowditch’s condition had stabilized.

“We would like to apologise for last night’s show. The good news is Pete is now in a stable condition. We’ll be issuing refunds to all ticket holders. All current European tour dates will still be going ahead.”

  1. Really? First and foremost rap is not music!!! It’s rap crap!!!! If you don’t play a instrument and can’t carry a tune which requires actual singing the definition of music does not apply!! Second it’s very sad to see a senior citizen nearly die on stage hung ridiculously from the rafters under the pretense of actually performing? In fact he clearly has no concern for his well being, overweight and his wife brings him alcohol in to the hospital? I wish him well but unless he has a death wish which is certainly in question I would recommend that he and his partner take up fishing and stop pretending to be musicians? That they have a following at all speaks volumes to the ignorance of fans as to what music really is anyway!!!

  2. What a terrible and crude thing to say to anyone just because you don’t like his type of music. Most people after suffering a cardiac arrest on stage would not have the courage to keep on going….maybe it isn’t a great idea, but that is between him and his doctor…you have no part in it. Everything you said just has a very rude tone…he can have a concert if people want to come…seriously, what is it to you? Leave others alone unless they directly are affecting you!
