Gregg Sulkin Reveals His Opinion on His ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Hair — ‘Very Bad Mullet’

English actor Gregg Sulkin has given his opinion on his distinctive hairstyle from his famous role on the Disney Channel’s fantasy teen sitcom “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Sulkin, 34, played recurring character Mason Greyback in the third and fourth seasons of the popular show. He reprised the role in the television movie “The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex” and in a recently released season 3 episode of the sequel series “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.”

The star is also known for appearing in the likes of the Disney Channel comedy series “As the Bell Rings,” the 2010 Disney television film “Avalon High,” the 2014 Lifetime movie “A Daughter’s Nightmare,” and the 2024 Netflix war movie “The Six Triple Eight.”

However, his “Wizards of Waverly Place” role remains his best known. The aforementioned hairstyle, which was a rather unflattering mullet, might have something to do with that.

Sulkin recently spoke to People to give his opinion on the infamous look.

Gregg Sulkin Says His ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Mullet ‘Was Unacceptable’

Prior to the season 3 premiere of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” (the first four episodes of which released on Tuesday, August 4), Gregg Sulkin spoke to People about what he would tell his younger self if he could talk to himself as he first stepped on the “Wizards of Waverly Place” set over a decade ago.

Sulkin humorously said, “Cut my hair. Definitely to cut my hair.”

He went on, saying, “I had a very bad mullet at the time, and it was unacceptable now looking back, especially considering the show was a very large hit and went to many territories around the world, including a lot of American households and the fact that I was walking around with a mullet and not a cool mullet.”

The actor elaborated, adding, “You know how now they have the cool mullets? Mine wasn’t cool. And I think I would definitely tell myself to dress a little bit cooler and to chop my hair for sure.”

Sulkin recently posted a photograph from the set of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.” He shared it with the 6.6 million followers on his Instagram account. Alongside him in the picture are his co-stars Jennifer Stone, David Henrie, and Selena Gomez. Needless to say he doesn’t have a mullet in the image.

Sulkin Is a Busy Man Right Now

Gregg Sulkin is a man in demand in 2026.

In addition to his aforementioned appearance in “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” he will also star in the survival thriller movie “The Ascent” and the horror film “Crawlers.”

Beyond that, he will also appear in the rom-com “The Pet-Nup” and the comedy movie “Going There.” Neither of those have official release dates yet.

Here at EntertainmentNow, we recently earmarked Sulkin as one of the next potential Hallmark leading men alongside other candidates Nicholas Galitzine, Charles Melton, Regé-Jean Page, and Corey Mylchreest. What do you think? Does the former mullet-wearing star have what it takes to be the Hallmark king?
