RAYE already has a title in mind for her third studio album, but fans may have to wait until her personal life provides the inspiration she wants.
The British singer revealed during an Aug. 20 appearance on NBC’s “Today” that she does not plan to begin making her next album until she falls in love. According to People, RAYE, 28, plans to call the future project “And Then She Fell in Love.”
“I’m on strike, basically,” RAYE said during the interview, explaining that she wants to experience a different perspective before writing another full-length project.
The decision comes after years of songwriting about relationships, loneliness and heartbreak. Rather than revisit those subjects for another album, RAYE appears ready to let her life evolve before deciding what comes next creatively.
RAYE Wants a New Perspective for Her Third Album
RAYE explained on “Today” that her extensive songwriting career has often placed failed relationships and being single at the center of her music. Now, she wants her next chapter to sound different.
When “Today” co-host Craig Melvin asked whether she genuinely planned to wait until she found the right person before releasing another album, RAYE doubled down.
“Absolutely. I’m hard-set,” she said, joking that fans could potentially be waiting 10 years.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the timeline, RAYE sounded excited about allowing her next project to develop naturally. She said she wants to experience life’s unexpected turns and see where they take her before creating the album.
It also isn’t a brand-new plan. People reported that RAYE discussed the same idea during a TikTok Live in March. At the time, she said she was finished writing variations of songs about being single or having a relationship go wrong.
Her solution was simple: fall in love first, then write “And Then She Fell in Love.”

RAYE Continues Her Successful Music Era
While album three may be on hold, RAYE isn’t exactly disappearing from music.
The Grammy-nominated artist released her sophomore album, “This Music May Contain Hope,” in March. The project followed her debut record, “My 21st Century Blues,” and continued a career that has established RAYE as both a performer and songwriter.
Her decision to wait also offers an interesting glimpse into how she views songwriting. Instead of forcing another project onto a traditional release schedule, RAYE wants her music to reflect a new experience in her life.
The singer has recently faced some speculation about her relationship status. Earlier in August, RAYE was spotted spending time with Michael B. Jordan at Six Flags in Los Angeles, sparking romance rumors.
However, People reported at the time that a source described RAYE and Jordan as “just friends.” The source added that their connection was new and that RAYE considered the actor her type.
For now, RAYE seems content to let both love and her next album arrive on their own timelines. And if her plan holds, whenever “And Then She Fell in Love” finally arrives, its very existence will reveal that something significant changed in the singer’s life.
