When anyone spends years at the same workplace, there are certain colleagues you form a bond. That was the case for Mayim Bialik during her time on “The Big Bang Theory,” but now, seven years after the end of the show, she shares the surprising truth about her connections.
Bialik got candid with Entertainment Weekly, breaking her silence on friendships in an exclusive interview. It turns out that her strongest connections are with two stars of “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff, “Kevin Fails to Save the Universe.”
Who Are Mayim Bialik’s Closest ‘Big Bang Theory’ Connections?
GettyBialik shared that her closest connection is with John Ross Bowie, who played Barry Kripke on the original sitcom. He returned to the spinoff, initially playing a dictator version of himself in the post-apocalyptic world that he, Stuart, and Bert come from. He didn’t want the universe-hopping device to be fixed, because that would mean losing his authority, but in the end, he was sucked along for the ride.
Bowie and Bialik spent a lot of time together during workplace moments on “The Big Bang Theory,” as Bialik would often end up at Caltech. It appears that the two also chatted a lot off the set of the series.
However, she is also close to Kevin Sussman, who plays the titular lead of the new series, Stuart Bloom. The two had more onscreen time together, as Stuart ended up moving into Howard’s mom’s house to help look after her for a while, so the group of friends would gather together regularly. Bialik had a lot of praise for her former co-star, sharing that he has become an outstanding leading man.
While she is also friendly with Lauren Lapkus and Brian Posehn, who play Denise and Bert, it’s the other two she has more of a personal connection with. They regularly text, and she has made it clear to them that “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” is the most excited she’s been for another actor. She explained, “But in terms of the emotional connection, I like being able to reach out to John and to Kevin and to be able to say, ‘I do not have any memory in my career of being this excited for another actor.'”
Mayim Bialik Is Also Close To a Female Co-Star
GettyWhat about the friend group? Well, while Amy wanted to be Penny’s best friend, it turns out that the “Blossom” actor is closer to Bernadette’s real-life counterpart, Melissa Rauch. That may not be too surprising when you consider Bialik guest-starred on Rauch’s NBC comedy “Night Court.”
The two will regularly chat, and they even made sure they could meet up on the set of “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” despite their cameo appearances not being in the same episode.
“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” has just landed a renewal from HBO Max, making it clear that this is a “Big Bang Theory” spinoff to watch. It doesn’t rely on storylines set up in the original series, either, as it involves Stuart, Kripke, Bert, and Denise jumping through various alternate worlds as they search for Howard, Leonard, and Sheldon to fix a device. It was this device that broke the universe in the first place, and only they know how to patch it up and set everything straight.
The opening credits are those to sit through, as well. Each one changes the words on the screen, and then the title of the episode is “Spoiler:” with something small that happens in the episode. Bialik made her cameo in the fourth episode, while Rauch was one episode before that, and there may be many more to come. So far, only the fifth episode has gone without a cameo from the original series.
Could Bialik return? She’s open to it, sharing, “Just to get to be part of the Chuck Lorre universe and also to do this with Kevin and John and with Lauren and Brian, so I would’ve been happy literally to do anything.”
