Stuart’s attempts to save the universe are not coming to an end with the upcoming Season 1 finale. HBO Max has confirmed that “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” has been renewed, meaning many more world-jumping adventures.
The news comes just after the release of the fourth episode, which saw the series take on “The Matrix” with its genre-bending comedy. Stuart was trapped in a psychiatric hospital in a world that wasn’t real, only to wake up with his friends in a scene literally taken from “The Matrix” before finding a way out of it all to jump to another parallel world.

HBOStuart will continue to save his Earth — along with other universes — as “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff has been renewed for a second season. There are no details on when the new season will arrive on HBO Max or the episode count, but this is an early renewal that could help to keep the wait to a minimum.
Due to the nature of the sci-fi elements in the comedy, a lot of post-production work is needed. This takes up extra time, meaning that early renewals are essential.
For now, all eyes are on how the first season will end. There are six bonkers episodes still to come, with Stuart, Denise, Kripke, and Bert trying to find a way to fix the device that Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard built. This device has triggered a multiverse catastrophe, which has led to the group working their way through other universes to find the trio so that they can fix their device.
With a second season in the works, it sounds like the “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” Season 1 finale will not end with them finding anyone, and that will mean a lot more parallel world-hopping fun.
Kevin Sussman Shares What He Would Like to See
HBOWhen chatting with TV Insider before the renewal, Kevin Sussman, who plays Stuart, shared his hopes if HBO Max did renew the series. He wants to see a little more growth for the titular character.
Up to this point, he is the worst person to save the universe. He doesn’t have the charm or charisma to get other people to help him, he isn’t the most commanding when it comes to solving arguments, and he doesn’t tend to come up with a plan. He hides more than he fights, but he admits that that is the nature of a comedy. You want someone who is a bit of a bumbling fool, as it adds some realism to the story.
He shared, “But again, it’s weird. It still needs to be a comedy, and the comedic engine is the fact that he is the worst person, the last person that should be put in charge of saving the universe.”
He has faith in the writers, though, especially after the fun he’s had on this first season. Each script has been absolutely “insane,” but it’s been a wild journey for the characters to go on, and there isn’t a dull day at work.
This is a completely different genre from the one “The Big Bang Theory” creator Chuck Lorre is used to. He knows comedy but not sci-fi, and that’s why he brought Zak Penn onto the series to help with those fantastical elements. The decision certainly helped draw in new fans to the universe while also crafting something perfect for “Big Bang Theory” fans.
To help draw the former fans in, “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” has brought in a number of cameos, including Bernadette, Raj, and Penny. However, the trio who have made the malfunctioning universe-hopping device are still to appear, and if they don’t during this season, there is now time to get schedules in order for “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” Season 2.
