Here’s Why Taylor Swift & Beyoncé Were Left Out of the 2026 Grammy Nominations

The nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards are out, and fans can’t help but notice two major names missing: Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Taylor Swift. The Recording Academy unveiled this year’s contenders on November 7, with the 68th annual ceremony set for February 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Their absence quickly sparked questions online, but the reason behind it is surprisingly straightforward: timing.

Here’s why the two global superstars were left off this year’s Grammy nominees list.

Neither Swift nor Beyoncé released new music during the official eligibility period, which ran from Aug. 31, 2024, to Aug. 30, 2025.

Beyoncé’s record-breaking album “Cowboy Carter” was released on March 29, 2024, just months before the new eligibility period began. The project, which redefined the country music genre by spotlighting its Black roots, made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The singer earned 11 nominations that year and took home several trophies, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album, making her the first Black woman to win in that category. The honors were presented by none other than Taylor Swift.

After wrapping her 32-stop “Cowboy Carter & Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour” in July, now the highest-grossing country tour of all time, Beyoncé has been teasing her next project, rumored to be “Act III.”

Swift’s highly anticipated 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” missed the Grammy eligibility window by just over a month.

Announced in a playful promo during fiancé Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast on August 12, the album officially dropped on October 3, 2025 — too late for 2026 consideration.

Despite that, the project has already broken major records. “The Life of a Showgirl” sold over 3.4 million copies in its first week, marking the biggest U.S. album debut since 1991. Swift also released a concert film, “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” which opened at No. 1 at the North American box office with $33 million.

According to Deadline, that made Swift the first artist since Prince to simultaneously top both the music and film charts, a feat even “Purple Rain” didn’t match in 1984. Her album will instead qualify for the 2027 Grammy Awards.

Though both artists are sitting out this Grammy season, their influence continues to dominate pop culture. Beyoncé remains the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, and Swift recently became the first artist to win Album of the Year four times.

With “Act III” on the horizon and “The Life of a Showgirl” still climbing the charts, fans can expect to see both megastars back in the Grammy spotlight soon, perhaps facing off once again at the 2027 ceremony.
