Growing Up Inspired by a Father’s Passion for Music
DeCarlo Jr. said his father’s deep love for music left a lasting impression on him, influencing both his life and his path as a musician.
He recalled how the Boston frontman often urged him to follow his ambitions and keep striving for more. “The vocalist constantly inspired his child to strive for more and to never settle.”
He also shared one piece of advice his father often repeated, a lesson that stayed with him over the years.
“One of his favorite pieces of advice was, ‘If you wait for opportunities to come to you, you’ll be waiting your whole life — you have to go out and create them yourself.'”
From Fans in the Crowd to Sharing the Stage
Among the memories that stayed with him the most were the nights he spent watching his father perform with Boston from just offstage.
Before joining the legendary rock band as its lead singer in 2007, Tommy DeCarlo had been one of its most devoted fans. For DeCarlo Jr., seeing that dream become reality was something he says still feels almost unbelievable.
“We would often exchange a look that said, ‘I still can’t believe this is real.'”
He described the moment as a powerful reminder of how far his father’s journey had come.
“It was a shared sense of awe — how we went from sitting in the nosebleed seats to standing onstage, with my father singing for the very band we admired for so many years.”
Carrying Forward His Father’s Musical Legacy
While he talks about his father’s life and glorious decades-long career, DeCarlo Jr. says he hopes to carry that legacy forward through his own music.
“My father leaves behind an incredible legacy, one that I intend to carry forward in his honor.”
DeCarlo Jr. said he hopes to honor his father’s memory by carrying forward the music and passion that defined his life.
“I know he would want me to continue making music, pursuing my dreams with the same passion and determination that he did.”
