Sophie and Margo are heading back to East Texas — and Malin Åkerman says the second time around is going to be a whole lot wilder than the first.
Malin Åkerman, who plays Margo on the hit series, opened up to People in an exclusive interview about what fans can expect when “The Hunting Wives” returns to Netflix for Season 2. The verdict from the actress behind East Texas’s most dangerous socialite? Think bigger, more risqué and a lot more twisted.
“I feel like we’ve been talking about it because we just feel like it’s a little bit wilder than the first season, meaning more twists and turns that are really unexpected, which is really fun,” Åkerman told People in a May 10 exclusive. “It was really fun for us going through the scripts, and I think it’s going to be a wild ride for the audience too.”
She added that returning to Margo for a second go-round felt “a lot easier” this time — “knowing what we’re walking into, understanding the tone of the show, understanding our characters, having an audience base out there who we know is really enjoying the show.”
Margo’s Backstory and the Official Season 2 Logline
GettyPer the newly released logline on Netflix’s official website: “Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
Season 2 promises to dig deeper into Margo’s pre-Maple Brook past while picking up the fallout from that infamous cliffhanger. As a refresher: Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow) ran over Margo’s deadbeat brother Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan) in self-defense, dumped his body in a ravine and accidentally answered his ringing phone … to Margo, on the other end of the line.
Off-screen, Åkerman and Snow are closer than ever. “Brittany is the best. She’s literally one of my best friends now,” Åkerman gushed to People. “Maybe that’s what has to happen when you have a love affair onscreen — you become best friends.”
A Loaded Cast: John Stamos, Angel Reese and a New Texas Crime Family
Returning alongside Snow and Åkerman are Dermot Mulroney as Margo’s tycoon husband and gubernatorial hopeful Jed Banks, Evan Jonigkeit as Sophie’s increasingly suspicious husband Graham, Jaime Ray Newman as queen-bee-turned-loose-cannon Callie, George Ferrier as Brad and Branton Box as Sheriff Jonny.
Deputies Walter Flynn (Hunter Emery) and Wanda Salazar (Karen Rodriguez) — the duo on the Abby Jackson case — have both been bumped up to series regulars, a strong tell that Kyle’s body is not staying at the bottom of that ravine.
There will also be several intriguing new arrivals and guest stars. John Stamos joins as Chase Brylan, a role Stamos told People in March was “a lot darker” than many roles he has played in the past. Dale Dickey (“Winter’s Bone”) and Cam Gigandet (“Burlesque”) play the ominously named Zelda and Gentle John Moffitt, a country-fried duo expected to bring fresh menace to Maple Brook’s underbelly. Two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese, who is set to make her acting debut playing “Trainer Barbie,” is also a highly-anticipated guest star.
Filming on season 2 wrapped March 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Netflix has yet to set a premiere date, but late 2026 or early 2027 is the likely window.
Will Sophie and Margo be the hunters, or will they be the hunted? Knowing this show, probably both. Either way — buckle up, because it promises to be an even crazier ride than season 1, and that’s saying something.
