Some of the cast from “Stranger Things” have opened up about how they feel with the hit Netflix show finally coming to an end with the release of the upcoming fifth and final season. Revealing the details in an interview, the likes of Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo have spilled the beans on the anxiety of knowing they won’t be working on “Stranger Things” any more and the excitement of exploring new opportunities.
‘Stranger Things’ Cast Speak Honestly on the Show Coming to an End
Speaking to the BBC in an interview to promote the upcoming episodes of the series, Matarazzo was honest about feeling anxious now that he knows his time in the world of “Stranger Things” is coming to an end. The 23-year-old, who portrays Dustin Henderson in the show, admitted that he has experienced some trepidation. He said, “I’m a bit shaky and there is a bit of anxiety, but I think that’s the point.”
However, now that he has matured into an adult and is no longer a young child when he first began working in the franchise, it feels like a good time to try something new. “Your twenties are all about change, transition and growing, and we’re incredibly lucky to be in a position to establish consistency in our careers,” he explained. “I see that as a real blessing and I look at it optimistically as I can because it is scary to not have the comfort of knowing there’s another ‘Stranger Things’ season.”
Lucas Sinclair actor McLaughlin also revealed that he hopes that “Stranger Things” becomes a part of culture for many years to come. Talking about its impact, he said that hopes the show “lives on and becomes one of those things that people will rewatch and never get tired of, like a classic film”.
The ‘Stranger Things’ Cast Have Become Lifelong Friends
In the same interview, McLaughlin discusses the fact that the cast have become such good friends over the years, having effectively grown up together. Recalling the final day of filming, he explained how everyone had a sense of connection.
“Everyone was there and it brought us back to episode one — that feeling of home, being supported and loved, and everyone was on the same page in terms of their connection with the show,” he says.
Meanwhile, Joe Keery — the actor who portrays Steven Harrington in the series — agreed with McLaughlin. “Season one felt like an indie film and now it’s this crazy big-budget movie,” he said before adding that for the final season “felt like we’d been working on it forever.”
“But we had a great time making it and the friendships we made aren’t going anywhere. We will still be in each other’s lives.”
Nancy Wheeler actor Natalia Dyer also praised the way the cast have strong relationships that match those of the characters they play. She explained, “These characters have this shared secret world they all know about and in real life, we have something similar as we’re the only people who know the show inside-out.”
Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers, voiced his agreement, saying, “the events in the show change these characters’ lives forever, and similarly this show has changed our lives forever.”
