VIDEO: Anne Hathaway Creates Iconic ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Hilariously Intimidating Oscars Appearance

A surprise “Devil Wears Prada” moment took center stage at the 2026 Oscars when Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour teamed up to present two awards — and slipped in a playful nod to the beloved fashion film.

The pair appeared together during the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to hand out the prizes for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Wintour and Hathaway’s Playful Exchange

Before announcing the nominees, Hathaway jokingly tried to get the famously stoic fashion editor’s approval of her look for the night.

“Anna, just curious… what do you think of my dress tonight?” Hathaway asked while standing beside her onstage.

Instead of answering, Wintour delivered a perfectly timed response that immediately drew laughs from the audience.

“And the nominees are…” she said, completely ignoring the question — a moment that echoed the famously icy demeanor of Miranda Priestly from the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Fans loved the moment and took to social media with their instant reactions.

“Iconic,” one fan simply wrote.

Another user wrote, “The crossover episode we needed to see.”

“Best moment of the night,” one fan noted.

Many social media users simply wrote numerous laughing emojis for the hilarious clip.

The New Film Comes Out in May

The joke didn’t stop there. Wintour then added another wink to the movie when she referred to Hathaway as “Emily,” the name of the character played by Emily Blunt in the film.

The playful exchange referenced the fashion world satire that starred Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andrea “Andy” Sachs, who lands a job at a powerful fashion magazine run by the intimidating Miranda Priestly — a character portrayed by Meryl Streep and widely believed to have been inspired by Wintour herself.

Wintour even leaned into the reference with her signature style, appearing onstage in dark sunglasses reminiscent of the famously unflappable editor.

After the humorous introduction, the presenters moved on to the awards.

Costume designer Kate Hawley took home the Oscar for her work on “Frankenstein,” while the film’s hair and makeup team — Mike Hill, Cliona Furey and Jordan Samuel — also received the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The moment was especially fitting given the renewed excitement surrounding the “Devil Wears Prada” franchise.

A sequel to the 2006 hit is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, with several original cast members expected to return.
