Ariana Grande Excites Fans with Haunting New Project

With “Wicked” behind her, former “The Voice” coach Ariana Grande has wasted no time jumping into her next album project, “Petal.” The singer, songwriter, and actress has been broadcasting the upcoming album on her official Instagram account, including teasers for the first single release, “I Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which was released at midnight on May 29.

Grande, 32, got her start as a Disney star and has tackled an incredible range of projects throughout her career. From “Victorious” as Cat Valentine to Glinda in “Wicked,” she has transformed herself for different roles. However, she is best known for her music, having released seven studio albums with hit songs such as “7 Rings” and “Rain on Me.”

Now, Grande is preparing for the release of “Petal” on July 31 with its first single release. Within minutes of dropping, “I Hate That I Made You Love Me” went viral on X and has already amassed tens of thousands of views within the first hour live on YouTube.

‘I Hate That I Made You Love Me’ Launches To Applause

“Petal” appears to be taking a different tone and direction from the 2025 album “Eternal Sunshine.” Nostalgic tempos have been replaced with a haunting beat reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department.” The song begins with a synth tune before Grande’s smooth vocals slip in from the background.

The lyrics of the song are far from a love story, with the chorus stating, “I hate that I made you love me. Sorry if I made me your type.” The story within the lyrics breaks down a situation in which the narrator is attempting to escape the attention of someone they weren’t trying to attract, implying that the situation is unhealthy and one-sided.

Listeners in the comments of the YouTube official lyric video for “I Hate That I Made You Love Me” have praised the release, with one stating, “deep voice tone, belts, insane lyrics, insane beat and catchy chorus, yeah pop is still safe in her hands,” and another adding, “her voice has matured so much!”

Ariana Grande Teases “I Hate That I Made You Love Me” Music Video

In addition to the “Petal” single release, Grande has confirmed that an official music video for “I Hate That I Made You Love Me” will go live on June 1 at 8 AM PST on her official Instagram account. The teaser for the video includes a clip of a man driving a car in the rain. As he goes to adjust his rear-view mirror, Grande appears in the backseat, eliciting a terrified look from the driver.

Grande also teased the release of the first single throughout the day on May 28, sharing a picture of herself in an off-the-shoulder dress, raising a white flower to her lips. The photo is in black and white, giving a vintage feel that matches much of her recent themes and styles.

In the official announcement that the trailer had gone live, Grande also shared a close-up, black-and-white portrait photo that shows her face surrounded by transparent flowers.

“I Hate That I Made You Love Me” can be found on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, as well as YouTube. At this time, there has been no news of additional single releases from “Petal.” Those excited for more content will want to catch the official music video on YouTube when it drops this Monday.
