Legendary movie icon Brigitte Bardot has reportedly been hospitalized again as she continues to deal with what local outlets describe as a “serious” health condition. French publication Nice Matin reported on Monday, November 24, that the 91-year-old screen icon was admitted to Saint-Jean Hospital in Toulon about 10 days ago and remains under medical care.
GettyThe publication stated that this hospitalization is connected to the same undisclosed illness Bardot suffered from earlier in the fall.
Earlier Procedure and Pushback Against False Death Rumors
GettyIn October, Bardot returned home to Saint-Tropez after undergoing what her team called a minor procedure. A spokesperson said at the time that she was resting comfortably and recovering well.
This latest update follows a wave of false online reports last month claiming that Bardot had died. A social media influencer in France spread the news without confirmation, leading Bardot to release a statement assuring fans she was alive and not in declining health.
French news outlets later clarified that she had been hospitalized during that time for surgery related to her ongoing illness.
The rumors followed Bardot’s October 16 hospitalization in Toulon, France, where she reportedly underwent surgery related to a “serious illness.”
GettyAccording to Var-Matin, the beloved movie icon was hospitalized for nearly three weeks before being released. However, on October 17, Bardot’s office confirmed to AFP via Reuters that the procedure had gone well.
“Minor surgery” was performed, and Bardot thanked the medical staff at Saint-Jean Private Hospital in Toulon for their care. She added that she was now resting at her home in St. Tropez.
Recent Medical History and Undisclosed Health Challenges
GettyBardot has faced several health concerns in recent years. Rolling Stone reported in the summer of 2023 that she received medical care at her home in Saint-Tropez after experiencing breathing difficulties during an intense heat wave.
Her husband said she was treated with oxygen and monitored until her symptoms improved.
As of this week, reporters in France say Bardot continues to receive treatment in the hospital while her condition remains serious. No additional details have been released publicly.
A Defining Figure of Global Cinema
Bardot rose to global fame in the 1950s with hits like “The Girl in the Bikini” and “And God Created Woman.” Her on-screen magnetism helped define a new chapter of French cinema and cemented her status as one of the most influential figures in postwar cinema. Her impact didn’t stop at movies; her style, presence, and unapologetic individuality shaped generations of artists, actors, and fashion icons who followed.
