Bruce Willis has retired from acting and stepped back from life in the spotlight as he continues to struggle with his health. He was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023, which has continued to progress. However, an update on his condition and how the family is doing came on Wednesday, May 27, when the “Die Hard” actor’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, appeared on “Today.”
Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Heming Willis Shares Health Update
In an interview with “Today” host Savannah Guthrie (daughter of Nancy Guthrie, who remains missing), Emma spoke candidly about her husband and his health. “You know, we’re doing well,” she said. “My husband is supported and loved and we’re doing the best we can under the circumstances.”
Emma has also taken on the role of caretaker for her husband, one that comes with its own challenges and takes an emotional toll. “What I’ve learned is that it’s so important to care for ourselves and if we’re not caring for ourselves, how can we care for the people that we love in our lives? So it’s really important to prioritize our health, to prioritize our brain health,” Emma said about what it means to be a caretaker for a loved one. “There’s actually actionable things we can do today to support our brain tomorrow.”
Updates on Bruce Willis’ Health & Life
The family occasionally updates fans on Bruce’s health, including photos shared online. Emma and Bruce have been married for 17 years, having exchanged vows at a wedding in the Turks and Caicos in March 2009. They are also parents to two daughters. On May 13, Emma shared news close to her heart, informing fans that she had launched the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support. She posted a photo on Instagram of herself with the 71-year-old veteran actor, and shared more about the fund in the caption.
“Today we’re introducing The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support,” she wrote. “Our family’s journey with frontotemporal dementia has opened my eyes to what so many families experience when someone they love is living with this disease. The uncertainty, the challenges, and the incredible strength of the caregivers who show up every day.”
She continued, “This fund is our way of helping move things forward by raising FTD awareness, supporting promising research, and standing beside the caregivers who carry so much.”
Fans flooded the comment section with supportive and encouraging messages. “Wow Emma! You have already done so much to raise awareness, dismantle stigma, and support caregivers. And now this,” a comment reads. “TEARS OF GRATITUDE. Thank you thank you thank you,” another person wrote.
Other reactions include, “Emma, thank you for your courage in sharing Bruce’s journey and for launching this fund to support FTD research and caregivers,” “I will happily make a donation on his birthday,” and “Brava. Being in the middle and sharing your book, learning and support is nothing short of amazing. Thank you.”
