Barry Manilow has been eager to get back onstage and perform for his devoted fans, but ongoing health struggles have prevented him from doing so multiple times this year. Manilow, who is 83, announced an important update on Tuesday, August 25, telling fans he would take a much-needed break to focus on his health and recovery.
Barry Manilow Reveals He Is Taking a Break
“Hi everybody – Barry here. And I want you to be the first to know that we’re going to have to take a quick break,” he shared in a statement posted on Instagram. “We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard.”
He continued, “Now we all need to sit down and shut up. So we’re going to take a break until we return to Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th. When I’ll be singing like a bird. I hope to see you then.”
The veteran singer, whose big hits include “Mandy” and “Copacabana,” will return to the International Theater at Westgate Las Vegas for his residency next month. But he announced that he intends to take a break before. He was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and underwent surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his lung in December 2025, People reports.
Fans React To Barry Manilow’s Latest Health Update
Manilow’s latest update has received supportive messages from fans, many of whom shared their well-wishes in the post’s comment section. “Take care of yourself Barry that’s the most important thing!,” a comment reads. “Relax and recharge. Don’t push yourself too hard. We will always be there for you,” another fan shared.
“You don’t need to sing like a bird. Just singing like Barry is good enough,” a third fan shared. Manilow has been transparent with fans, using social media to update them on his health, what the surgeons have said, and when he needs to rest. He has canceled multiple shows this year, and it has been a challenging time, but he remains positive.
The singer has also opened up about his cancer. “Ironically, I feel great and have no symptoms,” he said in a statement, People reports. “I’m thankful that my doctors were proactive and ran tests that typically wouldn’t be done. They caught it very, very early.”
