Former NASCAR driver Chase Pistone, who is the grandson of two-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner “Tiger” Tom Pistone, has sadly passed away at 42 on Monday, March 2.
His older brother, Nick Pistone, who is also a former NASCAR driver, posted a message on Facebook to announce his passing. “Well My young brother and best friend is gone. I’m broken hearted and don’t know if I’ll ever get over this. I miss you Chase already and I hope you are you are in a better place. I love you and I miss you so much already!!!!!!!” he wrote.
Legends Nation confirmed the news of Chase’s passing on Monday.
“Chase was not only a wheelman in Legends and Late Models, but his Chase Pistone Inc. Legends team was a force to be reckoned with every time they showed up at a track, and they usually walked away with the winner’s trophy,” Legends Nation posted on X.
No cause of death was provided for Pistone. However, Chase’s brothers, Tom and Nick, asked that Legends Nation “post the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which is 988 on a phone or text.”
Remembering Pistone’s Career
GettyPistone began racing at age 6. He won the Summer Shootout Championship Legends four times as a driver (two Semi-Pro, two Pro) between 1999 and 2005 and had over 80 feature event wins in Legends, Late Model and USAR competition, according to PEOPLE. In 2006, he finished in the top 10 at Iowa Speedway in the No. 50 Dodge for Bobby Jones Racing.
He competed in the ARCA Menards Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and NASCAR Xfinity (now NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts) Series, according to USA Today.
Pistone was also a car builder of Legends Cars and Super Late Models. In recent years, he focused heavily on developing young talent through his Chase Pistone Inc. Legends program, fielding competitive Legends and Late Model cars that routinely contended for wins. Within grassroots racing circles, he was known as much for teaching and coaching as he was for driving, according to TMZ.
Pistone’s Memory Is Honored
GettyRFK Racing executive Brian Murphy shared a tribute to Pistone on X following his passing.
“Heartbroken to hear about the passing of our friend Chase Pistone. He was not only a talented racer but a true mentor who poured his time, knowledge, and passion into the next generation. RIP CP,” wrote Murphy.
In response to TMZ’s post on X announcing Pistone’s passing, fans shared their condolences:
“So young… rest in peace, Chase truly tragic.”

“Sad loss. Prayers to the family members and friends.”
