Investigators Are ‘Definitely Closer’ To Identifying Key Suspects in Nancy Guthrie Abduction

It has been more than a month since  Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing, with authorities believing this to be a kidnapping. And while there have been some developments in the case, none have produced viable suspects.

However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is making it clear that they are not giving up hope, specifically regarding their hunt to identify suspects. Specifically, when speaking with NBC’s Liz Kreutz, who aired the Today show on Tuesday, March 3, Nanos said that they are “definitely closer.”

“I think that investigators are definitely closer. We’ve got a lot of intel, a lot of leads, but now it’s time to just go to work,” he said.

Masked Suspect Seen On Doorbell Camera Footage Believed To Have Visited Nancy Guthrie’s House Before Abduction

The doorbell camera footage recovered from Nancy Guthrie’s home showed a masked man who is believed to be responsible for the kidnapping. However, in a recent report, it seems that the night of the abduction wasn’t the first time he visited the house.

ABC News reports that the suspect was captured on the doorbell camera before Nancy’s suspected kidnapping, according to sources familiar with the investigation. Specifically, the source added that the image released by the FBI of the suspect at her front door, without a backpack, was from the day prior, even though they said there were from “the morning of her disappearance.”

CNN added that the reason for believing this is on two separate days is “because the masked suspect is not wearing a backpack in one of them, according to the source.”

Savannah Guthrie Visits Nancy Guthrie’s Memorial

On Monday, March 2, Savannah Guthrie was joined by her sister, Annie, and her brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, on a visit to the memorial that was created outside Nancy’s home as the search for her continues. Many people have left notes and flowers, with the color yellow signifying hope.

According to News Nation, the Guthrie sisters added a note of their own to the memorial. It read, “Momma, we miss you so much! Our hearts are broken. We are standing on ash, on scored earth! But Mom, though we are surrounded by so much darkness and uncertainty, our love burns bright. We love you Mommy. We miss you so much. Our best friend!!”

After her visit, Savannah shared a photo of the beautiful memorial, thanking everyone for their love and support.

“we feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country 💛,” she wrote. “please don’t stop praying and hoping with us.”

“bring her home,” the ‘Today’ anchor concluded.
